A glimpse...
Now that her son is away on his night hunt Tan Meichun is alone for the first time since she adopted him.
With a sigh she goes to the workshop in the back of her home and steps into the shed, picking up a lump of clay which had been wrapped in wet towels to be kept fresh.
She puts on her apron and sits at the work bench. She weighs the lump of clay in her hands for a while, before deciding on what to make of it. Finally she starts shaping it into a pot.
This is the craft of the Tan-family. Ever since she was a girl she had been making pottery, forming vases, jars, cups, plates and bowls with her bare hands.
Before long she is covered in splotches of wet clay, a pot taking shape in her hands. She works without a pottery wheel, giving her pieces a rustic feel.
This is the trade of the Tan-family.
It has been like this for many years...
