“Inuman Na!” by Parokya ni Edgar (1999)
Waiting for another round of drinks with a gigantic bottle of Tanduay Rum Light, which is on display along Senator Vicente Yap Sotto (1877-1950) Street in Barangay Tinago, Cebú City.
Tanduay Rum started in the early 19th century Elías Menchatorre in the Municipality of Hagonoy, in the Province of Bulacan. In 1856, the distillery was purchased by the Ynchausti y Compañía and the rum was subsequently packaged as Ron de Destillería de Hagonoy y Tanduay (rum from the distillery of Hagonoy and Tanduay).
The name Tanduay came from the Tagálog word "tangwáy" (peninsula/lowland), which described the area where Quiapo was located as it would often flood when much of the site was marshland. This would mean that the distillery of Ynchausti y Compañía was part of the properties owned by Valentin Teus e Yrisarry along the tangwáy of Pasig River and in Intramuros. In the 1930s the drink was officially branded as Tanduay Rhum.
