i started this one in fucking JANUARY after i got the splatoon 2 artbook and had this idea. i already came to terms with the fact that i'm never finishing it

Inspired by Trust - Half Alive IT was an idea for a lyric illustration I never got around to with DJ and their intense trust issue problems in other people, even friends. They've been stabbed in the back on numerous occassions and trusting someone is like jumping into ocean deep to them

This one I still plan on finishin! It's just some simple shirt designs (mostly for myself to wear) because there's very little simple insect shirts in the market. If I do end up selling they'll be through preorders if there really is interest :] This is the goal for this new year at least!

The last is trying to design a pangolin fursona because my friends are forcing me to have one but im still entirely unsure about it because im PICKY and want to fight someone about this. im in my insane arc is shapeshifting rice not enough for you sickos?

1 for your main splatoon fic!

Parker’s steps were slow and careful, every click of his shoes against the metal platform echoing throughout the abandoned octarian dome. He could see each shaky breath he took appear before him in a puffy white cloud, and then quickly dissipate into the darkness behind it. He shuddered against the cold, clutching his weapon close in an environment that sat eerily still, as if at any moment something were going to leap out and attack the poor man. Still, he shouldered on, through the blistering underground chill and the dark abyss that surrounded him, pushed away by nothing other than the dim glow of his flashlight.

Despite not wanting to be here, the inkling didn’t have much of a choice. A few months ago, he’d joined a group of vigilante-type agents and made a promise to find one of their missing members, Agent 3. He’d been off the radar for weeks before then apparently, as he’d been told, and the group’s captain and leading agents had begun to get worried. Then, Parker came along and innocently offered his help. He was temporarily crowned ‘Agent 4’, and was sent off into the unknown, with nothing but Agent 3’s last known location and physical description to guide him. Ever since then, he’d been travelling between hundreds of Octarian domes, most abandoned like the one he was in currently, but others were still active and bustling with hostile life, all in the distant hope that he would find a man that he was beginning to consider dead.

After months of searching, the whole operation began to feel like a wild goose chase. Of course, no one else but Parker would be the one to fall victim to some old man’s vicious prank, send a boy out into the territory of an enemy once thought extinct after someone that may not even exist, and just sit and watch the disaster unfold. A boy not built to be a fighter being sent into an ancient war—what better entertainment?

Then, something clinked against the floor.

Parker reeled out of his pessimistic rabbit hole and back into the black cavern around him, the beam of his flashlight flying into the direction of the noise. Vines and grass climbed up the rundown walls, the metal sheen of the steel now long faded and replaced by dirt and mold. Dust floated through the air and across the beam of light, and in the center sat a small bolt, which was slowly rolling to a stop on the dirty floor. Panic spiked in the inkling’s chest, and the haunting feeling that he wasn’t alone began to ooze over him like sap trapping a fly in amber. His flashlight flew upwards, illuminating the dark ledges and catwalks that sat above him. He searched around, checking several beams of steel and chainlink walkways, only for nothing to be there other than a never-ending darkness. He sighed, trying to calm his racing pulse, and cautiously stepped onward.

The exact moment his flashlight lowered, there was a quick succession of footsteps behind him, and he was barely able to turn around before it barreled into his chest and knocked him to the floor. Parker yelped in terror, bucking and kicking to try and wriggle free of his attacker, only to fail and for something sharp to suddenly dig into the back of his neck. In an adrenaline fueled shove, the inkling managed to free himself, pushing the figure away with a muffled oomf. Parker scrambled backwards the moment he was able to and fumbled for his weapon, a sharp, irritated pain running down his spine from where the object had once been. There was a frustrated hiss and a soft click, and when Parker managed to flip onto his back, he was staring down the barrel of someone’s gun. He cried out and ducked under his hands, silently preparing himself for the ring of a gunshot and for everything to go dark. Would there be a light? Would there not be? Would it just be nothingness? He didn’t know what to expect from death, but he was soon about to find out.

Only, the gun never fired. There was never a shot, no eternal darkness, only the feeling of the cold nipping at his nose and the dull throb in the back of his neck. After a moment, he hesitantly opened his eyes and peered at his attacker. Their face was shrouded in the low light, aside from the glint of a pair of glowing headsets. Then, the mystery-man lowered their weapon and reached down, grabbing Parker by the collar of his jacket and lifting him off the ground. Only then was he greeted by the scarred and angry face of the person who’d nearly killed him. He had dark and threatening blue eyes, his nose and lips wrinkled in a vicious snarl, revealing an equally vicious set of sharp, glinting fangs. However, his dark hair was tied back in a smooth ponytail, no sign of an octoling’s signature suckers, and under his baggy eyes was a thick, black mask than ran over the bridge of his nose, only broken in the center by a gnarly scar that ran from his eye to his jaw. Parker swallowed as he slowly realized his enemy was in fact not an octoling, but rather an inkling.

Before he could question anything though, they suddenly growled and bared their teeth. “Who are you, and how the hell did you get here? Where did you get that gear, where did you come from?”

Parker stammered, his brain trying to balance between answering those questions and focusing on the scar. He vaguely remembered Cap’n Cuttlefish saying something about a scar, a long, nasty one that Agent 3 had apparently earned at one point. Blue eyes, and a long, jagged scar that ran from his eyebrow to his lower jaw. Parker’s eyes popped open as the realization suddenly struck him.

“Y-You, You’re Agent 3!”

Agent 3 hissed and suddenly reached for his collar with his opposite hand, carrying him another few feet and aggressively pinning him against the wall. The inkling yelped as his back slammed into the metal, the stinging in his neck suddenly flaring up.

“The fuck do you care?” The agent growled.

“Cap’n! Cap’n sent me!” Parker cried, bracing himself for whatever punch Agent 3 might throw at him. “Captain Cuttlefish, he sent me to come find you. I’m not your enemy, I swear!”

Instead of throwing a punch, the agent sniffed and let go of his collar, leaving him to slide down the wall and onto the ground with a thump. He rubbed at his neck for a moment before craning his neck to look back up at Agent 3. He stared down at him intensely, his brow furrowed and his eyes glinting in the light of his fallen flashlight.

“Who are you?” He asked.

“Parker, th-though Cap’n named me Agent 4.”

“There’s no Agent 4 as far as I know.”

“Y-Yeah, but—okay, wait, let me explain. Cap’n lost track of your signal, and no one could reach you. He and the other members of the Splatoon got worried, so they found me and sent me to come look for you.”

The agent was silent, and for a moment Parker feared he thought he was lying to him, but before his fears could come true, Agent 3 sighed tensely and walked away. Shakily, Parker stood and moved to get his flashlight from the ground. Once he grabbed it, he looked back up to see 3 standing some distance away, his shoulders bunched as he rubbed his chin in thought.

“Cap’n sent you?” he asked, in a tone that sounded like he didn’t quite believe him.

“Yessir.”

The agent huffed and suddenly glared at Parker. “Well, congratulations, you found me. Now go away and leave me alone.”

His eyes widened, and his gut suddenly dropped. In a meek voice he responded, “I . . . I don’t think I can do that.”

Three narrowed his gaze. “Well, you’re going to have to, before I make you.”

The inkling shrunk back and gulped. “No, no, really, I can’t. C-Cap’n gave me strict orders to find you and bring you back to the outpost.”

The agent sniffed indignantly. “And what makes you think I’m going anywhere with you?”

“Well, what do you want me to say to him? Tell him I couldn’t bring you back home because you refused to come with me?”

Three snarled suddenly and lurched forward, bringing himself nose to nose with Parker. “Don’t get short with me, you shrimp. As far as I’m concerned, you’re lying to me and only came here to kill me.”

The inkling swallowed nervously as he backed away, a faint sting in his chest at the agent’s remark. “Why would I . . .”

“Tell me,” he barked suddenly. “What did he say to you?”

“Wh-What?”

“Cap’n,” Agent 3 snapped. “Tell me exactly what he said to you.”

Parker bit his lip and stifled a tense sigh. “Agent Four, I need you to go find Agent 3. I can’t do it myself, and Agents one and two are too busy to devote extended time, so the only person I can count on is you. Go, find him, and bring him home.’”

Agent 3 paused. “Cap’n said that?”

“Exactly that,” Parker responded. “Just like you asked.”

The agent stared at him for a moment, then huffed and turned on his heel. He began pacing around the room, his long, worn cape trailing behind him. Parker watched him for a moment, and then went to rub the back of his neck. The mark stung for a moment, and when he pulled his hand back in front of him, there was a long, dark smear of blood across his palm. He attempted to swallow the fear rising in his throat, before quickly moving to dig through his supply bag for a bandage. Once he found one he peeled the large patch open and slapped it over the wound. It wasn’t the best, but it would do for now.

A shadow suddenly fell over Parker, and he looked up to see Agent 3 looming over him once more. “Fine,” he huffed. “I’ll go back.”

The inkling sighed in relief and slowly stood as Three began to walk away. Quickly, he grabbed his things and started to trail after him. The agent then suddenly stopped and tilted his head over his sulking shoulder.

“That wasn’t an invitation for you to follow me,” he growled.

“Well, I, uh,” Parker stammered. “I don’t exactly remember the way home, so I figured you’d be . . . able . . . to . . .” He trailed off as the agent’s gaze bore into him. As much as his gut wanted to curl up and hide, this was the one thing he had to stand his ground on. He didn’t know how to get home, Agent 3 needed to take him back.

“Fine.” The agent sniffed suddenly, then held up a pointer finger and jammed it into Parker’s chest. He could feel the prick of the inkling’s claw through his jacket, threatening to poke a hole in his chest. “But you listen to me, and you listen loud and clear. Stay, out, of my, way.”

Parker gulped as the agent’s claw retracted, and he swiveled on his heel to continue walking. He sighed to himself, trying to drain the mountain of stress that had built in his chest. However, as he moved to follow Agent 3’s hulking figure, he couldn’t shake the horrible feeling that this was going to be a long road home.

Three Of Them. time to talk about my new guys

ash: he inherited his late grandfather's cafe that is located in the main splatsville street. it's a small family business, and it'd be shut down if ash didn't choose to keep it; his parents didn't care about it, and wanted him to move abroad with them, but he chose to stay in splatsville and continue the family tradition. he is passionate about cooking and keeping the cafe makes him very happy

he's also a HUGE squid sisters fan. so the day rory casually comes in with a bunch of people to introduce (hey ash meet my Military Coworkers), and he sees THE callie and marie coming inside his little cafe, he goes insane and blacks out for a moment.

rory: she accidentally (or was it?) touched fuzzy ooze a few times during alterna missions, and tempest would be the one to help her out with trimming the fuzz, until. the time they cut her ear on accident. then marie took over that role (so yes her chipped ear is not a Cool Battle Scar. it was her boss with a scissor)

fern: he's a grizzco employee and makes a living out of it. he does not trust cee (rory's smallfry friend. short for cereal) at all and swears she's plotting something against him (<- traumatized). he became friends with ash because he'd always come to eat at the cafe after work. they started bonding over their similiar music taste, and very often discuss celebrity gossip together

1. how would you describe your style?

I unfortunately have like 6 or 7 styles but I am trying to pursue the more funky one this year :]

17. what do you love getting compliments about?

Hoo boy. Idk if this one will count but I ADORE when people write jumbled nonsense and jokes in response to whatever I draw like king I eat that shit up yes perfect that's exactly the vibe Im going for thank you.

Another one which isnt entirely a compliment but, I love hearing emotional responses to the gut wrenching shit i write/draw. Like, no joke, this has been a big motivator for me as an artist for years. Sometimes it's the only thing that really helps me keep coming back to something, like this blog. Its yall who really just motivate me with your responses tbh <3 thanks yall

23. what's something you hope people notice when looking at your art?

I don't really fiddle around with easter eggs much, not as much as I should anyway, but I do sometimes hide very subtle symbolism in my art. Whether is metaphorical or item based. It doesn't get pointed out very often though, which means I'm either doing it very well or not well enough LOL

Another one would be the subtleness of touch, expression, etc. I'm not there yet on that one, my skills are very lacking. I still cannot draw kisses or hugs lol my poor ace brain cant compute But Ill get there eventually

Vivian was never very quiet when it came to her emotions. For someone who has an excellent death glare and could send shivers down your spine from across the room without speaking a word, the octoling was ironically very messy when it came to the complex tangle that was her emotional state. Nobody knew this fact better than Jebediah, especially now, as she sat in a comfortable burrito of blankets on their shared couch, silently staring blankly at the floor.

Woken up from another nightmare of her past, she now sat with her groggy partner on the couch in their living room, waiting for the night to wash itself away. The inkling had been woken by his fretful friend about an hour earlier, shortly after she’d been sent into another frenzy over the echoes of a past she desperately wanted to sometimes forget. Now, he patiently sat with her as she struggled to calm herself down, a gentle hand massaging her back as he muttered reassurances when he could. He would’ve had her locked in a hug, too, but Vivian had her boundaries, even around those as close to her as Jeb was. So, now he’s left to wait, wait for the octoling’s mind to ease, and wait for her voice to find itself again after the tight sobs it had just choked out mere moments ago.

When he felt his companion shuffle under his hand, Jeb turned to make sure she was alright. Her cheeks were still red and puffy and stained with tears, the occasional sniffle still seeping from the heavy green blanket she had currently draped herself with. Other than that, however, she seemed to have calmed down for the most part, her face now quiet in comparison to the chaos of minutes prior.

“You okay?” Jeb tentatively asked.

“Yeah,” the octoling sighed. “Yeah, I’m okay now.”

The room went quiet again, and Jeb squeezed her shoulder. “Anything I can get you?”

Vivian laughed grimly. “A hug, maybe.”

Despite her jesting tone, the inkling still gave her a genuine stare. He knew her well enough by now to know when her jokes were actually jokes and when they were sugar-coated pleas. She knew this too, but was often a bit stubborn to admit it. Tonight, however, didn’t appear to be one of those nights, as within the moment she was already leaning towards him. Jeb reached out to her in reply, his opposite hand taking the back of her head and guiding her to his chest. With a soft “c’mere,” he had his partner curled in his arms, his hands wrapped around her in a protective bubble that said I’ve got you. I’ll protect you.

“Thanks,” She sniffled, her voice muffled by his t-shirt.

“Always,” he replied.

Writer Goal Ask List for a New Year 🎉 🐌 What is one of your smallest writing goals? ✨What's one area of your writing that you think needs the least amount of improvement? 🛏 Is there a new trope you'd like to write this year?

🐌&✨ are kind of connected for me! i really really struggle with stamina and writing things that are longer than 5k words. i'd love to build up the ability to write more on my own; RPing online has definitely spoiled me with the collaborative writing process.

ah hm.... i don't typically think of tropes in terms of the kinds of plots i write, usually. while i am someone who, at the end of the day, recognizes that characters are tools in service to a story, regardless of how character driven, it is often the characters i think of first (perhaps that is the aspiring character designer in me).

that said though... i don't know if there's a particular trope name for this kind of relationship dynamic, but i want to put more GNC romances and couples into the world. more fem/fem and masc/masc m/f couples 2k23
