When we think of the Tango Nuevo movement, two figures we think of right away are Gustavo Naveira and Fabian Salas. These two men worked to increase awareness of the techniques and structural understanding of tango as a whole. However, Chicho Frúmboli was another important figure in the development of the Tango Nuevo movement. We don't hear as much about him but among the founders of Tango Nuevo, Chicho Frúmboli is best known for his musicality and creativity. Around the time Naveira met Frúmboli, Naveira and Salas were already making headway into researching and conceptualizing Tango Nuevo. Naveira recounts in the interview: “But, with Chicho, around this time, with only six months of study, he was amazing as a tango dancer. Chicho was absolutely the best dancer I ever saw. He started working with us — with Fabian and me — and we said, ‘Well, we have to get him to really join us in this work, or else we have to break his legs!’ He did crazy things no one else could do!” Perhaps one reason that contributed to Frúmboli’s seemingly less prominent participation in Tango Nuevo was that Naveira and Salas had simply traveled more, and Frúmboli chose to hone his craft alone. This doesn’t diminish Frúmboli’s significant contributions to the development of Tango Nuevo. He eventually traveled to Europe himself and began teaching a new generation of tango dancers, which he continues up to this day. We hear a lot about resolutions this time of year... but here is a DIFFERENT question to ask yourself: How do you want to feel this year? From there, ask yourself.... What will help you feel that way? (And adjust your schedule to match!) Starting from that question leads you to a very different answer. If you want to feel closer to your partner, what actions will you take? If you want to get fit, what are fun activities that you will stick with? Have a safe New Years Eve everyone! Tango zu Ostern Die positive Resonanz auf unseren Online Tango Unterricht hat uns überwältigt – dafür vielen, vielen Dank. Unser Konzept des Video-Unterrichts hat sich ideal bewährt. Viermal in der Woche bieten wir unterschiedliche Module an. Dabei sind die Module so aufgebaut, dass sie die einzelnen Aspekte des Tango abbilden und in der Summe wie Puzzleteile ein Bild des gesamten Tango ergeben. Obwohl beim Video-Unterricht jeder für sich ist, sind wir trotzdem irgendwie zusammen. Nach den Online-Einheiten beantworten wir gerne noch Fragen oder plaudern einfach noch ein wenig. Wir möchten an dieser Stelle nochmals hervorheben, dass jeder mitmachen kann – auch passiv (Zuschauen). Aus Fairness-Gründen schalten bitte ALLE ihre Kamera an. Spenden: Nicht jedem ist es in der momentanen Situation möglich, Geld für Tango auszugeben. Deshalb sind unsere Einheiten zwar kostenlos, dennoch freuen wir uns und sind sehr dankbar für jede Spende.
