#tanuki bones

Used my Acetone to remove some of the super glue that was on my T.anuki skull. I’ll also be using it to separate those two vertebrae as well.

I’ve put my c.at skull in acetone so it will hopefully help with the stubborn grease spots, as well as the paw bones and the O.tter, although you can see I didn’t get enough to fully submerge them all.

I’m hoping that soon after the c.at will be done and I can put her in for a final whitening, then all back together and she can go in the cabinet.

Thought today would be a good day to switch everything over in the tub

I’ll finally be degreasing Cain and I’ve thrown in some of the T.anuki bones as well and I’ll be keeping it inside so I can keep the heater on in the tub. There’s supposed to be rain this week and a chance of thunderstorms at some point so this works out well.

I’ve also got these guys out to check progress and I’m hoping the c.at is done degreasing. It was just two small areas on the back but it’s been stubborn so far. If it isn’t I’ll throw her in the heated tub.

T.anuki bones update? Yeah turns out I was sold a T.anuki instead of a red F.ox. I got a bit discouraged for quite some time and even thought about scrapping it at some points since it’s quite difficult without the proper tools but here she comes!

So much grease 😮

I think I left this about 1-2 weeks untouched. At least I know progress is being made, the greasiest things in there are the T.anuki leg bones and the C.at skull. I’m hoping the O.tter will be cleaned relatively fast so I can clean them fully and sell them. Being unemployed and having to rely entirely on someone else is not fun.

I don’t think I’ll be able to articulate the T.anuki unfortunately. I started working on it again recently and I pulled out the front leg bones to match them up. The scapula and humerus match up but I have two different sized sets of the Ulna & Radius which is also on the same side (please correct me if I said those wrong)

You can see the size difference between the two sets and how they would go on the same side which is left I believe. I guess this just really really sucks because I’ve already spent so much time working on it and now I won’t be able to move forward and complete it.

I may just take what I have done apart, properly clean up the skull and figure out something to do with the rest of the bones. Maybe I’ll even try articulating just the paws? Who knows, but I’m just glad I got my money back honestly.

Ribs are as done as possible. It’s very evident now the the bones were boiled and I can see how awful it is the more I clean them. I’m honestly worried about smaller bones like these because the scapulas were visibly damaged around the edges and are thin like these. They are all clean but there’s a shadow on the left half that makes it look greasy still.

T.anuki foot bones. There’s about 90 of them including all the little tiny ones that go in between and now they’re all nice and clean.

Completely white and free of any old flesh that was on them, here’s a better picture in the light

Might use these in some curio bottles? Seems like a good idea we will see where we go with it. Gonna need to save because we’ll be moving in a couple of months! ✌🏻

I finally got some bottles for what I wanted to do. They’re these cute little “message in a bottle” but I plan on taking it out to make little curio bottles!

I already made one up from a bottle I had beforehand (silver lid) and one of the new ones. First one has s.nake shed, T.anuki rib bone, s.tarling feather and d.eer tooth. Second one has l.eopard g.ecko shed, d.eer tooth, s.tarling feather and a T.anuki foot bone
