Shopping and Being Online
I'm Tanya and I do a lot of things that interest me. One of those is doing my shopping online. Before the Internet became so huge and diverse, I used to do what everyone else did, which was spend half a day at a shopping mall or high street going from shop to shop and while it had some kind of appeal to it (I'll never really understand that), it did use up a lot of my free time.
So now I can do all that without leaving my home, but what are the gains and what are the losses?
I save a huge amount of time by not wandering around stores and looking at tons of stuff I probably would never have bought. Now I go straight to the website I need and zone in on what I'm looking for.
No carrying heavy goods to and from the car. Online products are delivered to my door so there's another major saving.
Generally, costs are less because the online stores can cut their own costs and pass on the savings to the customer.
Wider choice of products all together on one page make it easy to compare different brands of the same thing to get the best one for what I need it for
I don't get to touch the goods before I buy. This is actually a major downside to getting things off the Internet and sometimes I just have to go out to physical shops to see, touch and get a feel for a product if I need to. I take the online price with me so I can compare but if the store sells it a the same of very close to the online price, I'll buy it there and then.
There is a social loss as I could meet with friends at the coffee shops and chat during buying sprees. Even supermarkets now have their own cafeterias where I could meet up with whoever happened to be there at the time for a quick coffee and a chat face to face.
Oh yeah, that last thing: Face to face talking seems to be a dying pleasure as so many of my friends spend more time "chatting" on their tablets via social media sites or whats app that they don't get together as much as they used to. I miss that!
Why am I telling you all of this? Who cares. I just like to get this stuff off my chest and here is as good a place as any. I also write for an online shopping review website so I wanted to mention that here too. Oh, I just did!
Happy retail therapy everyone. I know we all need it!
