Man, I’m not kidding when I say my Friday was packed with photo activity. As a photo editor, I’ve been itching all semester to have such an opportunity, and I’m really glad I could stretch my photo muscles a little bit. It was a comfort knowing that although I love photo editing, I still love being an active photographer, too. So, back to this awesome opportunity. You see, Friday was Tap Day at MU, which is basically the day that all the secret societies of the university come out and announce this year’s initiates for the first time. All the initiates wear some pretty creepy, cult-like robes and hoods during the public ceremony, until their society goes onstage and unveils each person, one by one.
Needless to day, I got a little too excited and shot too many frames for this assignment. The most difficult part is, I didn’t realize until days later that I had done so, and as soon as I did realize it, all of the excitement just deflated because I felt like I had only gotten decent photos because I shot so many frames that one or two was bound to turn out well, not because I was really thinking about what I was taking photos of. Anyway, I’m still proud of some of the work I produced, and you can see the full gallery here. Here are a few more outtakes that you WON’T see in that gallery:
This was one of the rare times where I had to go out and shoot something, and then come back and edit and tone all of my own images, too. It’s quite possibly the most difficult thing for me to do at the moment, because I tend to edit my own work rather loosely. It took me forever to find just the right photos I wanted to include, and even then I wasn’t sure of myself because I’d stared at my own work for far too long. C’est la vie...with time, I’m sure it’ll get easier...right...right...?
