True thing: California’s ecosystem is adapted to yearly controlled burns, set by people who did not live in wooden houses or treat the environment as a thing to be beaten and destroyed. Colonial Europeans fucked up a wonderfully balanced system, here and in many places. Prairie fires kill fewer people because fewer people are concentrated in the prairies, but were similarly destabilized.
True thing: Finland’s humans are less adversarial to their ecosystem than the humans who fucked up California’s ecosystem. Finns who moved to California most often came for the lumber industry, and did play a part in the destruction of the ecosystem the Native Americans controlled.
False thing: Finns just up there with the rakes in Tapiola
