Will we finally learn what happened to Amelia Earhart?
From 1937, missing aviator Amelia Earhart is shown in the cockpit of her Lockheed Electra 10E, the aircraft in which she attempted her "Flight Around the World" beginning May 20, 1937.
For almost 90 years, her fate has been an open question that has eluded a definitive answer. In April, 2026 (next month!) a team of researchers will travel to Nikumaroro, a small island in Kiribati to follow up on evidence that the Electra 10E is "The Taraia Object" seen in satellite images.
The expedition to Nikumaroro was originally scheduled for November 2025, but was postponed due to regulatory snafus and weather. The expedition is led by the Purdue Research Foundation - Ms. Earhart's employer at the time of her disappearance. You can follow the progress of the expedition on The Taraia Object Expedition website.
