GoT Season 6 Finale: R+L=WTF JUST HAPPENED! Spoilers
Holy crap, holy crap, holy crap...HOLY CRAP:
Cheers to the best episode of the best season so far. Ever since Benioff and Weiss outran the books it's been an avalanche racing to a conclusion that none of us really expected. Considering the finale is called Winds of Winter - which is the title of the next book that is supposedly forthcoming - it makes sense that all of the pieces on the board have come across long awaited resolutions. And, my God, how they came across those resolutions was...well...explosive.
Now, to complete the obvious segue, Cersei finally has gone mad queen. The black dress in the beginning was the obvious sign but the coldness of the discovery of Tommen's death was pretty unexpected. She's comfortable because she thinks she has outrun the frog woman's fortune. The execution of her revenge included a terrorist bombing in the middle of the kingdom that is rapidly approaching a cold winter. But, as Game of Thrones has always made obvious, the Iron Throne compels peoples inner desires. Everyone is vying for King's Landing, but before they get their chance, Cersei will be the one to destroy it before anyone has their chance.
A few weeks ago I predicted Varys was heading to Dorne. Seeing Olena's vicious tongue whip demolish the sand snakes was rewarding and scary for the prospects of anyone else. By the way, there has to be some obvious time elapsed here. Considering that Dorne is far south west of Meereen and the final scene of the show displays Varys as well as a number of ships with the sigil's of House Martell and House Tyrel there was a bit of a time jump. By the way, if it hasn't become clear by season 6 yet, Peter Dinklage continues to separate himself as the best actor in this show. It's the feeling I got from watching Bryan Cranston evolve throughout Breaking Bad. It's amazing.
RIP High Sparrow. You were the villain - or hero - of the most realistic story line going on in this show. Church vs State. Religion vs Politics. Willingness to do anything vs a religious measured response. The measured response lost out to say the least. Once Tommen decreed that trial by combat be removed as an option, Cersei's hand was forced. Also...
RIP Walder Frey. You were a disgusting man in every way. Your happiness of recovering River run - albeit by the golden hand of Jaime Lannister - was short lived. Your two son's are dead and now the Twins will naturally return to the hands of the Starks. Speaking of Starks. Arya is a g without equal. There were rumors that Lady Stoneheart would make her appearance this season. We just didn't realize that Arya was carrying the mantle.
Sansa will have a very interesting season next year. She entered a chess match against the most manipulative person in the 7 kingdoms. Little Finger was born into nothing. Became a pimp, a treasurer in King's Landing, and is now pretty firmly in control of the Vale. Sansa will have her work cut out for her next season. Unless, of course, Arya gets to Little Finger first.
Oh yea. There was this one thing that happened. Hmmm. What was it.
Bran got dropped off at the wall by Cold Hands. This might be a final good bye to Benjen. We'll see. Let's not forget, Samwell has walked into his own paradise. Books out the ass. He can barely control his emotions. RIP to Daario's heart. Back to Bran's nosiness...
Finally we got the confirmation people have been waiting for. A song of ice and fire. Stark and Targaeryan. Rhaegor + Lyanna = Jon. The bastard that we thought Ned sired was the son of Lyanna Stark. Lyanna was the mistress of Rhaegor basically. By mistress, of course, we mean his true love. They were the Romeo and Juliet of GoT. A forbidden love that begot a son who would have been killed by Robert Baratheon had he known the truth. Lest we forget, it was supposed to be Robert Baratheon and Lyanna Stark double dating with Rhaegor Targaeryan and the famous sister who was raped and murdered by the mountain, Elia Martell. Jon and Dany are cousins. So we may have to forego that possible love story. Either way. RIP to R+L=J? The question mark will be gone forever.
