does anyone else remember a few years ago, taron’s dad sold a story about him to a low level publication like the sun or something? it may have been pre rocketman… it was just basically some pictures and him saying he’s a proud dad and that Taron and Emily are really in love or something like that? I just tried looking for it and can’t find it but I remember thinking that was pretty scummy of him.

I’m still confused about this whole Egerton is Tina’s maiden name thing. If it’s true, then why did sites frequently refer to her as Tina Pound? Also, what’s David’s last name? I’m now wondering if Taron was born with a totally different name and changed it after the divorce? I’m so confused!

The reason I felt it was wrong, because I was wondering if his mum going through what she's going through has kind of brought up feelings of resentment with his Dad. It's really hard to explain, but I've been through a similar situation, and when you're faced with losing someone you love, it kind of puts a spotlight on the parent who wasn't there for you growing up, or treated your mum poorly in the past.

That's why I thought it might be inappropriate to bring up - maybe you can respond without quoting this? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Oh I am one hundred percent on board with all of this, as it's the same conclusion I have come to myself in the past few weeks. Especially with him bringing David up directly in that Horowitz interview, I mean. He'd never done that, or at least, never put him in a bad light like that, nevermind live and in stereo and in front of an audience.

Some might say that wasn't deliberate, as the man famously just doesn't have a filter most of the time, and I would have to agree to an extent. But also, I can't help but spy a glimpse of intention in there, somewhere. Tina's illness will have brought a lot of shit up for him and I bet you anything we're right in thinking this David palaver feeling rawer than usual (however bad it is or was) is closely linked to it.

With all this talk of his dad, I wanted to add my two cents. People have said that in the Rocketman era, he didn’t slag off his dad but actually I recall one instance where he nearly did. I can’t remember which interview it was, but it was a Q&A. He was talking about Elton’s relationship with his dad, and how rough it was. Taron said something like, “my relationship with my dad is” and then stopped himself. and in context, he was getting at the idea that, like Elton, he had a complicated relationship with his dad. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen this interview, so I can’t remember the full quote but yeah, he hinted that things may not have been perfect.

Also, Rocketman was heavily centered around Elton's poor relationship with his dad, and not once did T mention his 'complicated' relationship. Something has deffo shifted.

Something must have happened with David. I remember when T used twitter and he was celebrating his dad’s band and promoting their music saying his proud he was. David did attend a kingsman thing (pics in that account on Twitter that had all the old photos). By rocketman david was not visible.

I did wonder (based on nothing) if David tried to cash in on Taron’s fame? Or the half siblings did. Or if David resented how much Taron praised (quite rightly) his mum in speeches, maybe d was jealous? We don’t know how much David was involved when he was young? Especially as they might have lived done distance apart.
