The Gun Debate: Yet another show of ridiculous Republican hypocrisy.
tartuffery is a funny word
From what part of our being is it that we find the criteria for our relationships? We all know the adage “You can’t pick your family.” I respectfully disagree. Blood. DNA. Chromosomes. These are the necessary elements of a literal, physical, incontrovertible relation between two people. However, family and relationships are not limited by the physical building blocks of a genus or species. This is not to discount those of us who have been blessed beyond measure in the families we were raised in. I mean only to look into the love and compassion I have been overwhelmed by in recent days as I work towards my full time ministry position. As I consider it I now realize how unsurprised I should be by this. I don’t mean to sound as though I’ve been waiting expectantly for financial gifts or words of encouragement. I haven’t. But, there isn’t a shred of doubt in my mind, body or soul that says I wouldn’t have done the exact same thing for any of them. Surely this is familial love? The pedantic mind will go to Webster or Dictionary.com for their defining of family. Go for it. On this matter I choose to define through experiential love and compassion. I love my friends, which is to say, I love my family.
