I recommend being very sweet, very polite, remember they’re teenagers with minimal religious education who are far from home and probably lonely and feel surrounded by hostile people, and *for the love of God don’t join them*

LOL, oh, nooooooo worries about joining. (I grew up in a heavily Mormon place and - while I had/have friends who are Mormons - have always known enough about the church’s policies/etc. that thoroughly put me off. Nothing’s made me more positively inclined since then.)

The one did look very young but the other - who was doing a lot more of the talking and leading the conversations - looked like he might have been in his 20s.

You absolutely should, it really does look almost exactly like your work in many ways.

I’ll admit I did a doubletake when I first saw the scrys in the tag here. I think this is Pesticide’s work tho, and they are already a well-respected accent artist so it makes sense that their gene work would emulate a more accent-like style. It’s an interesting design for a gene and I think between it and scales opens the door for some more creative gene concepts. I’d like to see something along both those lines for primaries and secondaries.

So I wrote out a whole big long thing of just, like, everything I’ve been pondering (well – a lot of it, anyway) and there are still just some things that aren’t quite, hrm. I either haven’t quite figured out how to articulate my argument on it yet, or I’m not actually quite sure what to think yet.

However, one random detail of it that I do feel a lot more confident about and am curious about other people’s thoughts on it is this:

Question: When we claim that G-d is all-knowing, what do we actually mean by that? Because if G-d truly knew every single thing including how this all ends, then how could free will exist? The outcome would already essentially be predetermined.

Hypothesis: G-d knows every possible outcome of every decision and where things stand at any given moment, but our actions can and do shift the balance incrementally so that endgame picture also shifts accordingly.

Discuss.

I wrote up a very nice email to the Board requesting they request the e-news people keep sending me content, and here are some items I can handle myself that the Editor should/used to do.

AND THEN:

It occurred to me that since content is emailed to a specific organization email address, perhaps they could tweak a setting so that it automagically gets forwarded to me every month. So I suggested that, too, in case the enews people “don’t want to collaborate.”

I feel very pleased with this potential workaround (the net can route around barriers! hurray!) though I am suddenly uncomfortably aware that I am about this close > < to taking on the whole effin’ Editor role. Which I don’t want, it supposedly takes about 15 hours a month but slamming stuff into the layout is only like 4 hours. OTOH in Portland I was doing ~12 hours a month at the coop, plus 4ish hours at another org soooooo my overall volunteer time commitment would er be about the same.

Thanks. Those few things were relatively ok to deal with, this time (I’ve had plenty of angst over leaving the one org already), but I’ve decided I probably need to go to one of the grocery stores and buy a large chocolate cake with rich chocolate frosting, ‘cause I’m going to need it to get through this. Sugar+fat+caffeine’s got me through grad school and helped mitigate depression and other crap in the past so I’m going to learn from that past.

Well at least you can have company? I tend to feel like “socially jagged” describes me waaaay more often than I wished it would. (Seriously though, yeah. Holes for those moments would be GREAT)

:| *sympathies* Yeah. I just need to find ways to remove myself from places where I have especially strong concerns about social behavior being judged in particular ways. I imagine I can find that where my missing million dollars and a unicorn are.

I"m always paranoid when people invite them home, because I know how good they are at being the sweetest, cutest little puppies who will promise you anything is okay as long as they get in the good graces of their mission president, heh. Not a lot of people have that kind of pre-exposure to keep them from buying it.

I don’t understand how people could be trusting like that but then I learned at an early age to hate the least attempt to convert me, plus a finely tuned sense of when people are running social scripts designed to steer things how they want (and I hate that shit, too), plus, also, good ol’ misanthropy in my innermost core.
