Mayan elder Tata Pedro Cruz, who was one of the few surviving members of the Mayan council of the Elders of Tz’utujil, transcended yesterday. I did not have the opportunity to meet him, but his wisdom and teachings will be carried on through us by the way he touched so many near and far by sharing his wisdom and his medicine songs. Unifying spiritual, cultural, and ethnic wisdom as well as doing everything with love were beautiful teachings he shared. He was known as the Mayan Ajq’ij and Day Keeper. Tata Pedro was also affectionately known as The Heart of Lake Atitlan K’U’XYA by his fellow Mayan council of elders, on which he was one of the principal authorities. I am grateful for the opportunity to connect with his daughter and others that share his teachings. His love and light continues in the fire.
