WORD: 1740
“Sixty five year old businessman Peter Ratajczyk is suing bookkeepers Roger and Karen Priest for injuries from a dog attack, emotional distress and hospital bills.”
“Order!” the bailiff barked before turning to hand the file over to the honorable judge. “Case number 1345, Ratajczyk verses Priest. Parties have been sworn in; everyone please take a seat now.”
“Thank you, Tim,” Judge Judy smiled as she scanned the paperwork, looking up as Peter entered the pen, followed closely by the babies, Elizabeth and Elle, Katie and Ning, myself, Gideon, and two witnesses from faire. We were all dressed nicely, as opposed to the Preist’s, who were wearing gym shorts and loud graphic T-shirts. “Mr. Priest, is there a reason why you came into a courtroom dressed like a common street bum?”
“Well, you see your honor, our suitcases got misplaced during the plane ride,” sniveled Robert Priest, his button up Hawaiian print shirt comically small on his big round beer belly. “And so, my wife and I were forced to improvise last minute.”
The judge snorted in amusement before peering over at the long conga line of babies marching their way in after their father.
“All of these babies yours?” she asked Peter, in clear amazement of how well-mannered they were acting.
“Yes, your honor, most of the kids are from my husband and I,” I answered her sweetly, endcapping the group as I came in last. I began to introduce everyone, smiling as I pointed them out. “Elizabeth was from one of my husband’s past relationships, we adopted Katie after she was put into foster care, Elle and Ning are their American Girl mini me dollies, little girl is my daughter who I carried by surrogacy for some close friends of mine, we adopted Baby Eve after her mother abandoned her at one of my husband’s shows, Baby Noah was my baby sister’s son who Peter and I got custody of after she died from an undiagnosed brain tumor, and Baby Mattie, Baby Teddy and Baby Jojo are the Ratajczyk family triplets.”
“And who is this?” she asked, pointing to Tommy, who had curled himself into his father’s chest, having been overstimulated by the judge’s thundering voice earlier.
“Do you want to introduce yourself, little man?” Peter rumbled pleasantly.
“NONONO!” he screamed. “SHE MEAN!”
“I’m sorry your honor- he’s autistic,” Peter explained apologetically. “Tommy doesn’t really like loud noises.”
“Ah,” she Hummed with a guilty expression. “Tommy? I’m sorry that I yelled. Sometimes, I get frustrated with my job, and I lash out.”
Tommy let out a distressed little whine as he refused to look up from where he had mashed his battle-scarred face into his father’s chest.
“How does this sound- I won’t raise my voice anymore,” she promised him, breaking into an amused giggle when he flashed her a thumbs up. “Well then, okay!”
The audience broke out into a wave of soft chuckles as Tim bit back a grin before shuffling his clasped hands behind his back.
Her attention was next up drawn to Elle and Ning, who were dressed sensibly in black judge’s robes, accessorized with pretty, feminine white lace collars.
“Cute dollies,” she commented simply. “Elle and Ning, if I recall correctly?”
Elizabeth nodded while Katie held up her mini me up over her head, causing another ripple of laughter to sweep the room.
“You can put Ning down now, Katie.” The judge’s face was stern and barely concealing a smile. “Now as I can put together from the reports, the Priests had a dog-”
“Princess,” the woman interrupted shamelessly. “Her name was Princess.”
“As I was saying,” she sent the woman a withering glare. “Princess attacked Tommy and little girl without cause or reason. Now, is little girl her legal name?”
“Oh no, it’s-” I said just as Peter was saying “Little girl is-”
Everyone burst into hearty laughter as Peter and I exchanged looks.
“You tell them, my love.” My face was flushed with a pink tone of color as Peter chuckled, swooping to collect little girl when she came over for a cuddle.
“I met my sweetheart when she was twenty-six weeks pregnant with little girl. She was acting as a surrogate for two of her friends, who had since been gracious enough to allow us both to help raise her. She was calling her little girl back then, and from there, the nickname grew to symbolize how loved and wanted she was before she was born.” Peter pressed a whiskery kiss to her cheek. “I love you little girl.”
“I love you Papa Pete,” giggled little girl, causing for everyone to explode into a resounding “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW…”
“Ah, that makes sense,” the judge hummed before hardening her face once more. “So, as I was saying, the Priests had a dog named Princess, who attacked Tommy and little girl without a sense of rhyme or reason. Now, where were the Ratajczyk children right before all this happened?”
“Katie and I were keeping an eye on the babies on the playground,” Elizabeth answered. “The triplets and Baby Eve were in baby swings, and little girl, Toomy and Baby Noah were playing in the sandbox. Daisy was at my side when the dog appeared out from nowhere and attacked. Tommy put himself between the dog and his siblings, and then Daisy attacked the dog.”
“And Daisy is…?” I knew that she knew, but she was testing for any inconsistencies.
“My doggy.” Elizabeth looked bashfully proud of herself. “I trained her myself.”
“What kind of commands does Daisy know?” she asked next.
“I recorded the tricks that I taught her,” she told her, fishing her cell phone out from her back pocket.
“Tim, I want to watch that,” she sent the bailiff over to collect the phone, which Elizabeth handed over with a polite hum. Sarah leaned over her grandmother’s shoulder to watch the video, which was Elizabeth running Daisy through her commands.
“Good girl Daisy!” I smiled at Elizabeth lavishly praising the family dog.
WOOF WOOF
The judge nearly jumped up out of her seat at the loud bark that sounded through the speakers. Everyone chuckled as she swiftly recomposed herself.
“What breed of dog is Daisy?” she asked Peter, who redirected her attention back over to Elizabeth.
“We’re not one hundred percent certain, however, we’re pretty certain that she has some Doberman and some mastiff in her,” she answered, accepting the phone back from the bailiff. “I also have pictures that shows her temperament with the babies.”
“Mr. Priest, I see that you are all but wetting yourself waiting to speak,” huffed the judge as the bailiff bought the pictures up to her. “And I will get to you in a moment.”
“But you honor-” he whined once more, his grating voice making the hairs on the back of my neck stand straight up. The judge shushed him, flipping through the pictures and smiling.
“Who’s the cat?” she asked, holding up a picture of Mittens lying next to a napping Tommy. The bandaged little man’s fingers were entangled in her fluffy kitty fur, and she was purring loud and proud through the photograph.
“Oh, that’s Miss Mittens!” she answered. “Between Daisy and her, I’d be more terrified of Mittens.”
“Yeah, Mittens can be pretty scary if someone threatens the life of her clowder of ugly, furless kittens,” Katie teased, ending with giggles from the audience.
“So back on track, when Princess attacked, Daisy counterattacked and redirected away from your siblings?” Judge Judy asked in a kind tone of voice. “And does little girl’s current have any injuries left over from the attack?”
“It all happened so fast, but yes,” Elizabeth began to answer her.
“I have video of what happened!” one of our witnesses piped in just then, producing their cell phone for the judge’s glaring eyes.
I watched her stern face morphed into horror as she watched the video, and I knew without a doubt that she was now traumatized.
“What was the damage done?” she asked with a slightly shaking voice. As Peter was ruffling through the papers in front of him, she turned her ire onto the Priests. “What on god’s green earth were you thinking, bringing such a viscous dog to a public place? Which by the way- where did the attack happen?”
“Sherwood Forest Renaissance Faire in Rhodes Island,” I answered as Baby Jojo padded up to me with a pigtail in her mouth. “We go every year.”
“Listen to me now, Mr. Priest-” the judge leaned forwards in her seat, a glint in her steelen eyes. “Get a life. You had a dog who attacked children, and if not from Tommy’s bravery at shielding his siblings, then your dog might have killed someone. I’m ruling in favor of the plaintiff for two point five million dollars, and I am dismissing the defendants’ counteroffer because it is foolishly stupid.”
Everyone burst into loud applause as little girl led a victorious war dance as everyone left the courtroom,
“YAY YAY!” screamed little girl excitedly, causing for Judge Judy to chuckle.

CHAPTER WORD COUNT: 1400
“And we’re home again!” I hummed as everyone spilled out of the Doom Buggy 3.0 and began to straggle upstairs towards bed. Peter had texted Ryley and asked her to be on alert for the delivery of one Thomas Jospeh Ratajczyk, who had been knocked out via medication for the ambulance ride into New York. Before we had taken off, the family had dropped by the hospital for a quick visit, and little girl had given little brother Tommy his beloved dollie to snuggle with for the journey.
“Yes, we are sweetheart,” Peter hummed exhaustedly as Daisy went upstairs after her pack of furless puppies. “Tomorrow, I can take the family to Mercy Memorial to visit with Tommy, and then afterwards, I’m meeting up with Gideon to get the ball rolling on suing that dog’s owners.”
“Understood, my love,” I acknowledged his rage and fatherly worry with a gentle hum, reaching out to settle my hand over his tightly curled fingers. “Will you be meeting with Gideon at his home office, or will he come to the house?”
“Neither- he’ll be meeting up with me at the hospital,” he told me, bringing my fist up for a series of soft, whiskery kisses. “He also went ahead and let the rest of the family know about Tommy’s battle scars.”
“Ah, okay then.” I felt sudden relief before immediately feeling guilty. “Well, no doubt at all that our family chat would have exploded when we’ll check it in the morning.”
“Okay,” he smiled as I ran into Elizabeth, who had let Daisy out before heading upstairs for a shower and then bed. “Hihi Elizabeth- how are you doing?”
“Not well,” she confessed as she leaned into me. “Will Tommy be alright?”
“He will be perfectly fine,” I reassured her with a gentle hum as she wrapped her arms around myself before I realized something. “Elizabeth, you are now taller than I am!”
“What?” She pulled away to investigate. “Nooooooooooooooo…” she whined before slouching. “I don’t want to be taller than you!”
I chuckled at her dramatics as Peter came up, telling us both to go upstairs and get ready for bed; he’ll let Daisy back inside when she was ready to come in again. I dropped her off at her bedroom before going to the master bedroom located on the third floor.
I groaned as I sank into my well-deserved bubble bath, warmth enveloping me as I relaxed and felt my muscles untensing. My head lolled backwards and my eyes shut as I momentarily drifted off into restless sleep.
The next thing that I was aware of was someone unplugging the tub and turning the overhead shower on to wash away the bubbles that had come to stick upon my befreckled skin.
“I’m sorry sweetheart,” Peter apologized in a gentle rumble. “it’s already two in the morning and I really need to shower now. I’ll dress you for bed before tucking you into our bed. also, the Ratajczyk family bedbugs had come in to spend the night with us.”
Sure enough, little girl, Baby Noah, Baby Eve, Baby Mattie, Baby Teddy, Baby Jojo, Elizabeth, Elle, Katie and Ning were all tucked into the center of the massively sized bed, sound asleep as Peter and I both smiled knowingly at one another.
“Might as well let them spend the night with us,” Peter shrugged simply as he tugged up the covers up over me. “I really wish that I could take away their anxieties and fears.”
“I feel the same way, my love,” I whispered as I turned onto my side and cooed as the babies immediately came for a nighttime snuggle with mommy. “I’m going to go to sleep now, my love.”
“Goodnight sweetheart.” I didn’t need to look to Peter to know that he was smiling. “I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Just shut up and go to sleep,” Katie grouched just then. “I’m trying to sleep over here!”
Peter and I both contained our sniggers of mirth as he disappeared into the bathroom to take a shower.

“Hihi Tommy!” I greeted the groggy little man the next morning, leading the charge into his hospital room. “How are you doing today, you brave little man?”
He looked up at me with his face covered in heavy bandaging and let out a distressed little whine, answering me as his siblings came pattering in with drawings for his tasteless hospital room walls.
A nurse came in right after them, and with a sweet smile, began to tape up their drawings. Little girl limped up to me and threw her arms up, demanding to sit on my knee. Her tiny little girl green casted foot was covered with scribbles from the family and friends from school and faire.
“Hihi, Tommy!” Elizabeth greeted him as she entered his room, wearing Isabelle’s kitty backpack with Mittens and Primrose stashed safe and sound away inside. “How’s my little baby brother doing today?”
MEOW Mittens looked concerned as Elizabeth shut the door and opened the backpack, letting the motherly cat and her baby skunklet out. Primrose wandered over to where the babies had congregated while Mittens jumped up onto the bed and curled herself into a purring kitty ball next to Tommy.
“Hihi Mitties,” Tommy slurred as he laid there, unable to really do much of anything. “Good kitty.”
Knock-knock-knock
Mittens leapt from the bed, seizing Primrose around the scruff of her neck and dragged her skunk baby underneath the bed. I casually draped the bedsheets to fall over the bed and conceal the family pets as a young faced nurse entered the room, pushing a cart of bandages and wraps.
“Hello, I need to change Tommy’s bandages,” they announced with a quiet hum as Baby Jojo crawled under the bed.
“Go ahead,” I told them, looking up as Peter and Gideon both entered the sterile room just then. My big brother was dressed casually in jeans, a graphic T-shirt and bright green converse sneakers, his strawberry blond curls swept to the side messily and his car keys twirling on his fingers.
“Hihi Giddy,” I greeted my big brother as the babies swarmed at his feet, all eager to greet their uncle.
“Hihi Mary Claire, hihi babies!” he chuckled as he dropped down to a knee to greet his beloved nieces and nephews. Eventually, he stood back up, with Baby Jojo and Baby Noah under an armpit each and Baby Teddy hanging from the back of his neck. At his feet, Baby Eve and Baby Mattie both took up their positions on a foot each, causing me to take a quick snapshot of the adorable moment.

WORD: 1156
Peter and I both arrived at the hospital twenty minutes later, rushing up to Tommy’s room, where we were met by a vast greenhouse of flowers and a small toy store of plushies, apparent gifts from Type O Negative fans and PeteClaire shippers.
The room was all but empty as a nurse scuttled in, telling us that Tommy needed another surgery at once, so he was taken to an open operating room.
“You have our okay to save our son,” Peter rumbled before taking in the otherwise crowded room. “Now before you go, can you please explain the story here?”
“Oh, these deliveries came since early this morning,” the nurse said with a smile. “Tommy is certainly a very popular little boy!”
“He is, yes,” I hummed as I was reading a card, wishing Tommy a speedy recovery. “Oh, my love, this person has a soup business in Downtown Brooklyn and wants to know if they can hand deliver some specially made soup for the family!”
“Yum,” Peter hummed as a doctor- this one being a middle aged woman with comically bright blue hair- came into the room after gently rapping on the open doorframe to grab our attention.
“Hello, my name is Doctor Yam, and I am a pediatrician plastic surgeon,” they introduced themselves with a sweet smile. “I was brought in to answer any and all questions that you might have.”
“How soon would Tommy need to wait until he’s ready to receive plastic surgery?” I inquired. “Also, I thought that the doctor said that they would be doing plastic surgery with the first procedure.”
“Given the damage and amount of scarring, I’d be comfortable recommending to wait about twelve to sixteen weeks before having the cosmetic plastic surgery done,” they explained in a gentle tone of voice. “Also, I looked over Tommy’s file, and I do believe that what the doctor was telling you is that he won’t have much scarring afterwords following the first procedure.”
“Oh, okay.” That made sense as I read another card, this one being in a foreign language that I didn’t know. I snapped a photo on my phone before using the reverse search function on Google. The note read, Carry onward and remain strong, brave little warrior in Norwegian, and I smiled at the idea that people from all over the world were uniting to show their love from the delightfully chubby little man. “Next question- how is Tommy going to be transported back to Brooklyn? The Doom Buggy 3.0, wee yoo wagon, floo powder…?”
“You’re asking the wrong person about that,” they confessed with a chortle at my Harry Potter reference. “But I can go and ask the doctor- I do believe that he’s off his shift in about seven minutes-”
“Go and hunt them down!” Peter ordered as he mosied up behind me. “Hihi there, sweetheart.”
“Hihi there, my love,” I smiled up at him before turning to the flowers. “My love, can you help me find all of the notes that came with Tommy’s war prizes and bring the flowers to the nurses’ station? I do think that the other patients would like to receive a little flowery goodness today!”
“As my sweetheart commands of me,” he told me before lumbering off to do as I had just asked of him.
The both of us met up once more with cards stacked neatly in our hands, which I had Peter settled into my purse-like basket, with the intension of creating a mass post up on my social medias, expressing many thank yous and warm hugs to people who had wished Tommy a speedy and healthy recovery.
Then, the both of us began to transport much of the flowers and toys out to the nurses’ station, telling them to distribute them among the other patients. I decided to keep a large bouquet of wildflowers and a little pale green elephant wearing a Type O Negative band t-shirt for Tommy to smuggle with.
~xoXox~
“My love, are you planning on taking the people who owned that dog to court and suing them for his medical costs?” I asked him later on as Tommy was returned to his room.
“Yes.”
My spine shivered at how dangerous and enraged my husband sounded.
“I’ll make them pay for Tommy’s medical procedures and then some,” he glowered. “It is not our responsibility to pay for their fuck up.”
“Indeed not.” Tears prickled at the corners of my eyes as I took in tiny little Tommy, wrapped seemingly from head to toe in bandages. “Poor little man.”
“Sweetheart, thankfully Daisy protected her puppy,” he reminded me. “I think Bitty will try to get her certified as a service dog.”
“A service dog for who though?” I questioned as the both of us took to sitting on either sides of Tommy.
“A family service dog, I don’t really know how that works,” he confessed as he offered our son a hand to squeeze.
“I think Elizabeth can best train Daisy to be her own personal service dog,” I explained as Tommy gave out a tiny whimper as he slowly woke up. “I mean, can one person have nine jobs simultaneously and be effective? Or even adequate?”
“Ah, good point sweetheart,” he hummed thoughtfully. “Nine different bosses, nine different individual task requirements…”
“Yeah, plus Daisy would be able to go places where most other four legged family members cannot go,” I added in, brushing the side of Tomy’s face as his hazel blue eyes fluttered open at last. “Hello there, mommy’s little man!”

CHAPTER WORD COUNT: 1284
“And we’re here now!” Peter rumbled as he pulled into the archer’s encampment at Sherwood Forest Renaissance Faire. The Friday setup was in total pandemonium as people pitched tents, gave chase to their littles, and took short water breaks.
“Little girl, can you please keep an eye on your little siblings?” I requested of her as everyone spilled out and began to unload the Doom Buggy 3.0, pulling out plastic tubs, the two family tents and furniture to be assembled.
“Okie dokie, Mama Wen Wen!” she chirped eagerly before herding the Ratajczyk babies off to the playground with Daisy trotting happily at her side, her little girl limp still there.
“Alright now girls, let’s get mommy’s and daddy’s tent up first, and then afterwards, we can set up your tent; does that sound like a plan?” I hashed out as I was unrolling the tent canvas. Elizabeth and Katie were both wrestling with the tent poles, while Peter was doing rough calculations in his head as he eyeballed the family’s two plots of tent space- this year, instead of being next door neighbors, we’d be right across from neighbors.
Twenty minutes later, and the Ratajczyk parents’ grand marquise tent had been pitched, and Peter was inside assembling the bed. The babies would be camping inside in the little “room” that would be separated by a canvas curtain. They would all be tucked into one spacious cot; the room having belonged to big sisters Elizabeth and Katie before they graduated to their Big Girls Tent.
“Okay now girls, do you need any help with your tent?” The girls had a small wedge tent, petite in size and perfect for two regular sized cots and two little trunks to be placed at the foot of each cot.
“I don’t think so mommy,” Katie answered me, wiping sweat from her forehead with her arm.
“Okay then,” I hummed presently, lugging the three empty tubs back over to the big tent to be placed into storage. I grabbed a green Gatorade from the packed cooler and went over to Peter to offer him a quick pick me up. “Hihi my love.”
“Hihi sweetheart.” His handsome face crinkled up in delight as he finished putting the slats in and fitted the mattress onto our bed. “Do you need help making the bed?”
“Not really, no, but feel free to help me!” I told him, smiling as he went into a trunk and came up with freshly washed bedsheets and pillows for the both of us. “Gramacy, my love.”
Peter only smiled at me as he began to help me with the fitted sheet and the flat sheet, leaving me to deal with the pillowcases and the quilted coverlet.
We were both pushing the tubs that had stored the tent canvas underneath the bed when an ear shattering scream rang out from the playground. We both looked at each other before tearing out from our tent, where we both found Baby Mattie and Baby Teddy with scratches on their faces and arms and Tommy with a mauled face and arms. Daisy was barking and snarling as she stood in front of her puppies, the crumpled form of a large breed dog a few feet away.
“I’m a nurse, I’m a nurse!” yelled one of the parents, rushing over as other adults were taking their children away.
“Oh my god, sweet babies!” I cried, my eyes landing on where little girl had herded Baby Noah, Baby Eve and Baby Jojo off to the side.
“Mama Wen Wen, the doggy just came out from nowhere!” little girl said, her voice cracking as tears were rolling down her sweet dimpled face. “Tommy pushed the babies out of the way!”
“Whose dog is this?” Peter thundered, worry and rage making his voice terrifying as someone else said that they were on the phone with 9-1-1.
Tommy’s screaming had since dried down into whimpers as he sat curled into a tight ball, quivering violently from pain as I got down onto my knees and then promptly scooped him into my arms, quietly crooning as I rocked him in my arms.
“It’s alright now, sweet little Tommy,” I promised him as an ambulance was allowed in through the back gate and skidded to a stop. “It’s alright now. You’re in good hand now.”
~xoXox~
“Poor baby,” I winced as the surgeon was describing Tommy’s injuries. Upon arrival at the local hospital, Tommy was rushed into surgery to close the vicious open wounds on his face and arms. I had volunteered some of my mommy blood for him, as how the chubby little six year old man had lost almost half of a pint of blood during the attack. Elizabeth had put the call out for more type O negative blood for her little brother on her Instagram stories, and the hospital blood donation center was flooded with Type O Negative fans and PeteClaire shippers eager to donate for a good cause.
“Yes, well the good news is that once everything has healed up, there won’t be much scarring,” the surgeon told us with a smile. “I also had to get in touch with Child Protection Services about the dog attack, as per law, so they’ll send someone by at some point to do a check in.”
“Sweetheart, animal control has the dog who attacked Tommy,” Peter
announced in a hollow tone of voice, tucking his cell phone back into his back pocket. “It is most likely that the dog will be put down and that the owner will face some time behind bars as well as pay a fine. The officer who I talked to told me that we can sue the owner, if we would want. But Tommy and the babies will still need rabies and tetanus vaccines just the same- I’m not taking any chances with my babies.”
“Can Tommy be transferred to Mercy’s Memorial in Brooklyn?” I inquired next up. “I have family that can check up on him while we’re here in town, and Peter has a niece who is a doctor there.”
“I do believe so, and I can check in with that,” the surgeon said before leaving with a squeeze to my shoulder.
