Podcast: 2014 ACC (Atlantic Comic Con) Preview

It took a mere 19 months, but Andrew and I are back with another podcast, albeit a hybrid episode. This week (or year), I take my talents to the fine website Raleigh & Company and join Andrew on his "Throwback Everyday" podcast. Podcasts for everyone!

Since the ACC football season is right around the corner, I do all the heavy lifting and research-intensive work of merely guessing the order each team will finish in for both the Atlantic and Coastal Divisions. Meanwhile, Andrew acts like a 12-year old and compares each team to a show or film recently featured at Comic Con. What is Comic Con, you ask. This is Comic Con.

I'll also have you know that Andrew was not in his Batman pajamas when we recorded this episode.

This is far and away our most entertaining podcast if I do say so myself. The bar wasn't exactly set too high on that one, but please feel free to put in the headphones and take a listen as you act like you're working on compliance modules. This is more important anyways. Plus you'll find out where I pick UNC to finish. I will have a more detailed preview of their season up on TATW in the coming weeks.

TATW Podcast #5: The Grinch's Little Helpers

Don't get me wrong. You're excited about Christmas and the holiday season, but something is missing. There is only so much holiday music you can take (except Burl Ives of course). Enough Mariah Carey, Harry Connick Jr and Michael Buble. You're jonesing for something different. Something unique. Then you realize it! All you want for Christmas is a new TATW Podcast! Andrew and Bryan complaining about sports and spreading holiday cheer for all to hear! It's perfect!

After a brief hiatus, Andrew and I return to discuss the lump of coal that is North Carolina basketball at the moment. We then hand out a few presents of our own to choice athletes and coaches. No gift for Debbie Yow this year.

TATW Podcast #1: The Pilot

After months of deliberation and investigation, we are proud (kind of) to debut the first Thrown Away to Worthy podcast. With the help of the loyal and persistent Andrew Batchelor (@awbatchelor), we have figured out how to record our voices and put them on the internet. As if what we have to say is important. This is the first of hopefully many TATW podcasts. Keep in mind this is our first shot at it. The quality will improve. Heck, we recorded this while I was driving home from Chapel Hill after attending Tuesday's practice. If you listen closely, you can hear me get out of my car to pump gas somewhere around Clemmons. Before you make fun of our suspect quality, consider the fact that this was our first go around and I was multitasking like a champ while 'podcasting.' Don't let the Blackberry fool you. I have an incredibly deep and robust voice. Batchelor just doctored a few things to make me look bad. Also, we do not plan on each episode lasting 25 minutes. I'd be stunned if anybody makes it through this entire episode without getting a snack or taking a bathroom break. In the future we plan on hitting one topic and satirically or legitimately addressing it depending on how serious the issue at hand is. Here we address the 'white-out' this weekend against Virginia Tech, the Panthers collapse in Atlanta, Russell Wilson's homecoming on Sunday as well as James Michael McAdoo being named first team All-American. Probably too much to cover in one podcast. Hmm, I guess I should write about those things instead. Whoops, too late. Finally, I promise we will be funnier in the future. We have our moments in this podcast, but Abbott and Costello we are not. Just bare with us as we work out the kinks. We might have a few guests in the future to generate some laughs. This is a pretty cool new feature to TATW, so we hope to constantly improve in order to optimize your listening pleasure. We also welcome and suggestions for topics. They don't always have to be about sports either. Enjoy. Go Heels Go America!

TATW Podcast #2: The Bizarro World of ACC Sports

The second podcast is ready to go. It is shorter, sweeter and sexier. This is the last hurrah for my Blackberry on the podcast. From here on out I will be recording via my fancy new iPhone. Hopefully it won't sound like I am calling in from the moon.

Andrew and I discuss the topsy-turvy world we live in where North Carolina and Duke are playing primetime football games and N.C. State is projected to win the ACC in basketball. Makes your head spin.

TATW Podcast #3: UNC vs. NC State - Yes, It's A Rivalry

Another Thrown Away to Worthy podcast and this week guess what we are discussing... That's right, the Bobcats and Bucks preseason matchup. While I would be more than happy to do so, North Carolina hosts N.C. State this weekend at Kenan Stadium and somehow takes precedent over Kemba Walker and the gang.

At any rate, Andrew and I discuss the game itself as well as why UNC and State is in fact a rivalry and always has been. It's just become a little more heated recently

TATW Podcast #4: UNC Basketball Preview

Earlier this week I introduced the latest crop of freshmen to join the North Carolina basketball team. Today, Andrew and I preview the team in its entirety and look ahead to the season in the fourth installment of the Thrown Away to Worthy podcast. Will it be a repeat of 2006 or more like the disaster of that was 2010?

Hint: We have no idea. We'll begin to find out starting Friday at 7PM (TONIGHT!) against Gardner-Webb.

We apologize in advance for the lack of humor this week. Carolina basketball is serious business. We promise to go all satirical once again in the near future.
