Alright, here are some new little details about Tawhai!
- He has bad stress habits when he gets too stressed out. The worst? He tends to gnaw on his tentacles, and depending on how bad a state he's in he may not notice he's doing it until he's mangled or accidentally eaten part of one. It's like humans with nail biting, but far more serious.
(I saw a post once that said a stressed octopus will eat itself. I don't know if that's at all true, but I thought it would be an interesting idea to use for Tawhai.)
- If you startle him too badly, he cannot control what his tentacles will do in response, they quite literally have minds of their own. He's in control of them most of the time, but sudden reactions are up to the tentacles.
- He's colorblind. Not even he is entirely sure how he always gets the colors for camouflage and imitations right considering this.
- Mating for his kind involves popping off a tentacle and offering it to the object of their affections. However, he got the feeling Rue wouldn't really understand or appreciate that gesture.
- He's FAST, much faster than someone might expect of a boneless thing like him scrambling along on land.
- Many monsters can identify other kinds of monster by scent... Tawhai, however, can identify them by taste. He's not exactly proud of this, but at least he tastes with his tentacles/skin rather than his mouth.
