Blood in the Water || Nate & Taylor

Great. As if the town wasn’t weird enough, since the moment the sky began to lighten, it was red. Blood red. Like someone dumped a bucket of red paint on the entire sky. And it hasn’t let up. Not to mention the flooding. Nate had gone out to his back porch to enjoy the sunrise and instead found that his waterfront property was now literally in the water. Not to mention it was leaving some weird residue and rising at a terrifying rate. It didn’t take long for Nate to fly into panic mode, sweeping around his house and moving the few valuables he had to high ground.
Once he’d moved all his important documents, research and architectural drawings up to his loft, Nate chanced a glance out over the water. It seemed to be rising everywhere he could see, but the news hadn’t said anything about any freak tsunamis or any weather phenomena. Usually with this sort of thing there was a warning, but today it was like the bay had just decided to up and rise.
Nate sped around his house once more before piling himself into his Dodge in search of some assistance or information. His radio trained on the emergency channel, all he was getting was nonsense reactions but no real information. “C’mon! Tell us why this crap is happening!” He banged his hand lightly against the steering wheel.
Carefully turning onto the main road, Nate came up to the docks and his heart lurched into his mouth. Boats were tipping and bobbing at an unnatural and rather dangerous height. Not only that, but he saw a few familiar faces, other Cresters who lived on their vessels. Really a terribly unsafe place to live even under normal conditions and this just solidified his thoughts on the matter.
Groaning to himself for doing what he was about to do, Nate slowly pulled into the small parking area. The water was already a few inches here and he rolled down the window, calling out to a girl he’d seen around town a couple times. She seemed new and like a fish out of water, not unlike himself. “Hey! You need some help?”
Nate hoped the trepidation wasn’t obvious in his voice. He was trying to do something brave, something his old self would have done without hesitation but the new Nate was terrified of. He was trying to be a hero.
