The Big House 6 trip report

Overall pretty sweet experience except the extra commentary breaks during top 8 melee. It really made the event drag on too long at the venue. Everyone was clearly exhausted by the time winner’s semis and finals were going down. It probably added some great production value for the stream but we couldn’t hear it for shit at the venue and I’m sure all the people who couldn’t get seats and were standing along the wall or sitting on the floor were probably getting even more antsy than we were. @smash-64 made a good post about this and if it weren’t for some of the more hype sets it probably would have ruined it for me.

Overall in big house experience rankings I’d say it’s now TBH4>TBH6>TBH5 in my mind. Smash 4 had some seriously hype moments and Komorikiri’s set vs Dabuz was absolutely bonkers. I was shaking when he made the comeback with Cloud at the end there against all odds. ALSO @soniccake I tried to get a shoutout vid or something for you from Mr. E but the couple times I could have talked to him were both right after sets he lost so it wasn’t a good idea on finals day >_<. Smash 4 is definitely a completely separate event now at big house and I don’t think Juggleguy even has a hand in it other than to host the event at the same location he has reserved. I think pulse gaming ran the smash 4 event this year and I’ll honestly be surprised if it’s still an event at big house in a couple years. It’s a melee event at heart so I won’t be surprised if it happens.

Grand finals melee was suuuuuper hype. All the matches between Armada and Mango were nuts and SFAT has been playing out of his mind lately. Hbox looked helpless in his set vs. SFAT and I think this is really his chance to break into top 6 territory if he keeps it up (although Ice really dicked on him lmao). I was pretty happy that the crowd even rallied behind Hbox for a while in his set vs. Armada after he had a rough day in bracket. It kinda sucks to see a player as talented as Hbox get 3-0′d so we got some Hbox chants going through his set. Real life rollout onto stage was also god tier. Great experience and I’m hoping next year will raise the bar even more!
