Trans Day of Visibility has a special place in my heart because on this day, 2 years ago, I (formally) came out to everyone in my life as transgender. I am just over 2 years on T, approaching 2 months post top surgery and I am just trying to savor every little part of this life that I can. 2017 has been rough for many of us so far, but I am actively trying to make it a year of self-love, discovery, and most importantly gratitude. I’m breathing, I’m healthy, and more than I’ve ever been, I’m happy.
I choose to be a visible member within the trans community for many reasons. I am visible for those who don’t have the option to, for those looking for a light to guide their way, and for those who may not understand our struggles and maybe I can help. To those that we have lost in our community, in this year alone and in the past; rest in peace, rest in power. To those who can’t be themselves proudly and outwardly, this is your day too, regardless. To anyone celebrating their first TDOV, welcome, share some selfies, share some stories! And to anyone else trans-identifying or merely allies, spread some joy and love today (and every other day) to the beautiful gender non-conforming folks you know (and even those you don’t) around the world!
