It's not just wonderful character development for Soren to start out with going on a mission from his father to kill a young boy and ending up killing (what he thought was) his father in order to protect said young boy; it's also brilliant mirroring and a beautiful symbol for how he's protecting himself/his inner child now from his father.
Additionally, the scene of him refusing Viren in front of the soldiers and then running away, is mirroring how he was scared and ran away from Viren as a little child (seen later in Viren's dream/memory). He came full circle. :')
