Today's artist on Tumblr feature - T. Dylan Moore!
To the hobbits who don’t know how freaking awesome you are, please introduce yourself. Well I really wish I was a Hobbit now… though I’m a bit tall for that. Anyway, I’m T. Dylan Moore, I go by Dylan, and I draw and paint. Where’d you find your inspiration? Everywhere. I know that sounds cliché, but it’s really true. I, of course, am inspired by other artists and can talk about artwork I like for hours on end, but there is inspiration in every aspect of life experience. Everything that makes me feel some kind of emotion, comfort, fear, can have an impact on my art. The easy answer though is nature. Nature iconography is a reoccurring theme in my work. Who are some of your favorite artists? James Jean, Kent Williams, Joao Ruas, Sterling Hundley, Gustav Klimt, Heironymus Bosch, Walton Ford, Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison, Edward Kinsella, Dali, Phil Hale, Aryz, ROA, Przemek Blejzyk, Andrew Hem, Swoon, Jeremy Enecio, J. C. Leyendecker, Sam Weber, N. C. Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth, etc. I know I am still missing some important ones. Any favorite medium of art? I love every medium. I will go through phases where I think one is my favorite, and then I’ll get a little bored and move on to a new favorite. A plain old mechanical pencil is always a good choice though. What’s your favorite food? Cheese. Good cheeses. Brie in particular. Do you have a favorite snack? See above answer haha. Really though, I’m an adventurous eater. I like a wide variety of food. Spicy or Non-Spicy foods? Sometimes one, sometimes the other. When did you start creating? I actually posted on my blog, about a month ago, some old family Christmas letters I found. My mom had described toddler-me as loving drawing and animals, and she said I wanted to travel the world drawing wildlife. I basically have the same loves and ambitions now. So, I guess I started before I can remember. I became really serious about art and made a decision that it was what I was going to do with my life a little over five years ago though. In your opinion, what is your favorite piece of art that you’ve created? Conservation of Energy. I actually created that for an advanced life-drawing class at school. The teacher kept teasing me in the class because I was so detail oriented. While the other students would be creating loose expressive mixed media figure drawings (which were really beautiful), I would be standing there hatching away with a mechanical pencil. So I decided it would be fun to take that same detailed drawing style he was teasing me about, and apply it to a large-scale piece. The subject matter was one I had been wanting to do for a while, but the drawing method was kind of a joke towards my teacher. I ended up really enjoying it though, and have gravitated to that style of drawing ever since. Any new projects coming up? I have a few potential projects in the works, but I’d rather not talk about them until they become a reality. Where do you hope to be in the next two years? I want to have found a way to combine drawing and painting that I’m happy with. Those are the kinds of images that exist in my head, and I have yet to find the best way to create them. Last, but most definitely not least, what is your favorite book? I have far far too many, the most recent book I’ve really fallen in love with is Cloud Atlas. Movie? Again, far too many (just look at the mini movie paintings on my blog). Amélie is always up there though Quote? Anything by Douglas Adams.
