Number 11 for the ask game~
11. Describe your writing process from scratch to finish.
step 2: plunnie attacks muse until the idea for the fic worms it’s way into every daydream. Random scenes and events keep cropping up until I have a vague idea of setting, tone and themes and eventually I. must. write.
step 3: start writing smack bang in the middle of main characters day- no ‘I woke up one morning and made breakfast.’ They gotta be doing something that tells the audience about them and their opening situation even if it seems mundane at the time that can show the tone of the fic. ie: in Otome Game, Kagome is playing…well an otome game while showing she’s an avid fan. In Macaria, she’s a cautious wanderer. In SiS she’s being treated to a seemingly random display of power from Sesshoumaru.
step 4: work out details of the plot after first chapter is written. I know this seems a bit random but all the scenes I want in the fic are in my head, so all I have to do is connect the scenes so that it becomes a story, and it can help to work out what goes where after just starting. Sometimes it can even take 1-3 chapters before I really know for sure what I want to do with the fic.
step 5: Procrastinate on tumblr
step 6: once the plot points are established, start writing! Sometimes I don’t know how a fic is going to end and have a few possible endings. Sometimes I’m not even sure about the middle, but so long as I keep going and re-read stuff to know what’s already been established and incorporate back into the fic later, things usually work out fine. It’s rare I write myself into a corner. It can help to have notes on mini-arcs for the characters to go through that are resolved in 1-3 chapters so that the audience can see that they’re growing.
step 7: Procrastinate on youtube
step 8: Towards the end wrap up any important loose threads and TRY to give a satisfying conclusion (I feel that endings are a weakness of mine but I try!)
