the most inspirational part of the night was hearing about how Mark had spoken to a creative writing class and analyzed Beyonce lyrics with them to show that this is stuff they already do, just by a different name.
it reminded me of the class I observe for practicum who are all, "uggh what's so great about this gatsby? this is boooring." (and can you blame them?) One thing I've noticed is that because this is a Regular English 11, the kids are treated like they can't handle analysis. Instead they get spoon-fed summaries of the chapters, and take quizzes about remembering side-character names and tiny details.
