Before reading “How It Feels to be Colored Me” by #zoranealehurston my students had to work in small groups to answer these four questions: 1️⃣What is identity? 2️⃣How much of who you are is determined at your birth? 3️⃣How much of it is something you decide? 4️⃣How much of it something that is determined by your experiences with others? 📚 After reading “How It Feels to be Colored Me” students analyzed the nonfiction narrative to identify the elements of her storytelling and how she develops her narrative. 📚 The analysis led them answer this constructed response: How does Hurston’s essay push our thinking about identity and "race"? When does "race" matter? How does it manifest itself? 📚 During Unit 1: Project Me students are being exposed to multiple text to learn about identity. They are doing an awesome job👌🏽 📚 #TeachersofInstagram #TeachersofGeorgia #blackteachersmatter #InstaAuthor #InstaTeacher #TeacherCommunity #SchoolMom #AmericanLiterature #AmericanLiteratureTeacher https://www.instagram.com/p/B1e6-PDnrjw/?igshid=1nfyh0eghww73
