also I’m not done freaking out about how honest and smart and good Rhodey and his arguments are in that initial talking-it-over scene
(like honestly I remember agreeing with almost everything said on both sides but the argument I most agreed with was Rhodey’s by a wide margin.)
like idek how to articulate what I mean exactly but just like...he’s purely motivated by wanting to do the right thing. He isn’t thinking ‘what are the consequences for me if I sign this?’ He isn’t even thinking about the Avengers: he’s thinking about the people they’re trying to protect.
And thinking about oneself and the team are good and important too and I’m glad that some people (Sam and Steve; Tony and Nat) are thinking of those concerns, respectively, but again, Rhodey’s the one arguing the biggest, most important concern.
Because I’m sorry but if you call yourself superheroes your fucking priority needs not to be yourself, your friends on your team, or your S.O: it needs to be the people you’re protecting. At least in this context, where there is an issue of active harm towards those people.
(and I feel Vision comes from the same angle as Rhodey, just not with half the conviction, and I deeply admire Rhodey’s conviction.)
Rhodey’s trying to be responsible and defer to a higher authority because all he wants here is to do the right thing, and I respect that so damn much. #TeamRhodey.
