Hey guys! So this is a one shot I wrote for thestaticquakenetwork’s challenge. The writing prompt was beach and... this is was came out of it. It was actually a lot of fun and I really like it so I hope you guys like it too! This is set after the season 3 premiere obviously, but it’s more of a distant future. Also, I used the nickname that practically everyone has headcannoned that Mack calls Daisy, but I thought it was fitting since Quake isn’t really a cute nickname.
This is also a very important fanfic to me because it’s the first one that I’ve written with Daisy Johnson and not Skye. I only messed up once and accidently typed Skye instead of Daisy so that’s progress for me! Anyways, please read below and reblog or like so that my team can win! Thanks guys!
The blonde inhuman took advantage of the quiet peace around him to run his hand through his short hair and sigh. He stood inhaling the air and admiring the view. The roaring of the surf and the wind in the palms were the only sounds around him. It wasn't long though before he felt her fingers loosely link with his and gently pull him down the beach close to the sunset, the soft sand sinking beneath their steps. It was the last day of their vacation from any missions and neither wanted to waste it.
“I can't believe there's no one else here,” Daisy said quietly, looking up and down the deserted shoreline.
Lincoln chuckled. “Amazing isn't it? I guess there's no shortage of beautiful beaches. We were lucky enough to find the least popular one.”
“It's just so beautiful,” he stole a glance at the tanned girl to his left. She was wearing raggedy denim shorts and an old tank top that read Professional Hacker, but he still found the young agent mesmerizing.
“Yeah, you're right about that.” She glanced his way and blushed at the realization that he had been staring at her. He blinked and looked away embarrassed, a light pink tinge to his cheeks. “So what do you think of it out here?” He asked quietly.
Daisy looked back out to the sea and inhaled deeply the warm air, heavy with salt spray. “I love it,” she admitted. “I always thought beaches were overrated, although that might have been jealousy over the fact that I had never gotten a chance to go, but this has been so amazing and relaxing. I almost don't want to go back,” she closed her eyes and Lincoln glanced at her again, a small smile gracing his lips as he saw her take another deep breath. He had never seen her so relaxed in her life, not in Afterlife with her mother or back at the base with Coulson, who was practically her father, but here on the beach with him.
He still couldn't believe that she had chosen him, yet it wasn't that too surprising. She had never given up on him. Not when he was captured by Hydra, not when he had chosen to believe Jiaying over her, not even when he ran away from her and Mack after their first confrontation with Lash. She had always believed in him and he thanked the stars every day that she still chose to do so.
“You know, we could stay here. Not go back. We could finally start a calm and not life threatening life,” He watched as her features went from relaxed to slightly irritated. He sighed inwardly knowing that this conversation would go just as all the ones before it had. Her eyes opened and she turned towards him giving him a pointed look.
“Lincoln, we've talked about this-”
“I know we have, but just picture it Daisy! We could come out to this beach and watch the sunset every day and we could live in a normal house and have a normal life! No more deadly missions, no more threats, just us. Together. In a true home.” Lincoln grabbed her hand and held it tightly, pleading with his eyes.
“Lincoln, I've told you before, S.H.I.E.L.D is my home. Coulson and the team are my family and I can't just leave them.” She sighed and shook her head. He expected her to pull her hand away, but she just squeezed his tightly. “I have been thinking though...” Brown eyes met blue and Lincoln couldn't help the shiver of hope that went through his body.
“Thinking...?” He held her eyes to his and trailed off waiting for her to finish.
“I've been thinking, that maybe, someday, when Coulson has got S.H.I.E.L.D up and going again and I've trained my caterpillars well enough to choose a new leader, maybe I could see myself settling down somewhere. Still close to the base! In case they need extra reinforcements, but yeah. A calm life. With you,” She looked down and blushed, pushing a strand of hair that had blown across her face back into place.
Lincoln couldn't help the big stupid grin that stretched across his face and when Daisy finally looked back up she laughed. He laughed too and pulled her into his arms so that he could swing her around. Her laughter grew louder and she lightly smacked his shoulder so that he would set her down. When he did he leaned his forehead against hers and they both breathed heavily, catching their breaths.
“I love you Tremors,” He smiled at the stupid nickname and she smiled too.
