Haiti was forced to remove an image of revolutionary leader #ToussaintLouverture from its Winter Olympics uniform.
But the uniform designer, Stella Jean, kept an image of his horse as a reminder of the slave revolt he led against France to create the world’s first Black-led republic.
“Rules are rules and must be respected, and that is what we have done. But for us, it is important that this horse, his horse, the general’s horse, remains. For us, it remains the symbol of Haiti’s presence at the Olympics,” said Jean.
