All his hard work continues to pay off. Happy birthday Mom, aka Oma, aka Grandma 🎂🎉 #teamodin #odinsvoice
He keeps telling me "it hurts." And he can't tell me what hurts. No fever, not boo boos, tummy isn't acting up. So I told him "let's try to sleep like daddy," and he's almost out. Rather than get frustrated when he can't tell me something, I try my best to help him find words and when I can't I just do what I know would make me feel better. #teamodin #odinsvoice #cas
Yesterday I took Odin to a pediatric chiropractor. Now I've seen a chiropractor since I was about 13. I had terrible TMJ as a kid and wow! did he fix that. I'm symptom free now for as long as I can remember except for the occasional jaw popping night here and there.
Anyway... we went. I was prepared for the anti vax talk. I don't talk about my views on vaccines. I don't preach them. I vaccinate. That's all. My dad being an immunologist/mircobiologist/pathologist led me down this path, also a lot of reading. That's where I'll leave it. So I went there and knew she'd bring it up. Most chiro's are anti dairy and anti vax, at least the four or five I've been to.
So Odin loved her immediately, she observed for quite some time and we discussed Odin's torticollis and traumatic birth and so on. She mentioned vax and I heard out and then she moved on to allergies I can't see. No snot, no rash, no stomach upset. She said perhaps some internal non obvious allergies could be part of Odin's CAS and SPD. She mentioned an allergist. I took that information and considered it, then we moved on to an adjustment. Odin did awesome. I believe in adjustment as it has work so well for me. 15+ years of competitive sports and heavy book bags did their damage, but I'd hardly know except this damn hip flexor (sp).
She was great with a lot of what she said and I definitely noticed a difference in is evening behavior when we got home yesterday.
We go back Wednesday afternoon. Her price was so amazingly fair. She fit right into my budget for extra alternative treatments.
I am trying to find 175$ to take Odin to a homeopathic doctor who will do a series of treatments that have really complicated explanations but have worked wonders on a friend's kid with severe allergies.
We went back and forth over cutting gluten and dairy. Then of course supplements. I ordered supplements from vitacost. He'll need quite a bit of DHA 3, 6 and 9 and vitamin E and choline. I'm struggling to find something with enough choline so I am looking for foods I can trick him into eating. We're going to start with supplements. We'll see how that goes and move onto dietary stuff. I am approaching this at all angles.
Positives:
"wake up mommy" as he tries to pick me up out of bed and rips the covers off of me.
Ran frantically out of his room when he woke up from his nap and verbally asked for food!!!! No 30 minute crying fest!
He's been reading numbers. Did it at Target right off the register. Then he's been counting in his head. So if he sees five, instead of going "1, 2, 3, 4, 5" he just says five and he did it a bunch yesterday. His brain amazes me.
Yep. Oblivious. I had a bad day yesterday morning...so I guess a bad morning yesterday.
Today with a last minute therapy session with our private SLP we talked about Odin lately. Holy cow sensory processing issues! Duh!
He throws everything on the floor. Give him something he can throw. Done and done. I have balls, I ordered a bean bag toss super cheap from amazon.
He wants my EOS chap stick and holds it tight. I ordered various sized and textured sensory balls/stress balls for $4.50.
He wants to open and close the fridge door even though he's eaten so much. He needs something to push and pull. Okay tiny shopping cart, found one cheap.
They make portable and compact sensory bins and great little beads to put in them. Why did I not do this before?!
On Wednesday I'll continue Odin's room purge and get him all set up. I am hoping we can make things a little easier on him.
Our SLP is going to come with me to Target and the grocery store to see if she can help us work through whatever is going on. Maybe she sensed my Sunday morning panic attack.
We had a good day today. We went for a walk, therapy, had some outdoor time. He fell asleep early but we had a good day.
Today I am feeling super optimistic. I put us on wait lists for swimming and the tumbling place is full so now I am in search of tumbling. Wish me luck.
I've read a bit on Sensory Processing Disorders, I need to read more.
Update on Odin (you guys are more in the know so this may be repetitive)

He says it perfect till I try to record it 😃 #teamodin #cas #odinsvoice
Lately
I asked a child free friend for technical advise regarding Odin. This lead her to telling me how to parent. But like telling me how to parent like I've never done it before and like Odin is the boss. She also thinks I should be spanking him or physical. Thanks for your advice but no thanks. So yep not going there again.
Today Odin had speech therapy with Early Intervention. He likes her toys and that's about it. He say no thank you to her a lot. I am glad it's free because he just isn't receptive to her right now. Our private SLP comes back next week. Yay! So we'll be back up to two days a week with her and one day with EI. I am going to take Odin to a new pediatrician soon for his two and a half year appointment and talk about a developmental pediatrician or if we can take him straight to Children's Health Care of Atlanta to get this possible sensory disorder checked out (to see if it's more or less). I feel like the speech stuff is going so well with the private SLP. It's slow but he's coming along. He's having simple conversations and it's awesome.
Tomorrow we go and get trees for inside the house. Odin is awesome with my house plants. We know there are a lot of benefits to large house plants purifying the air among many other things. I'm oddly excited about house plants. I know it's more for me to take care of but caring for my plants is therapeutic.
I'm working on resolutions for 2015. I've already started a few. I unpacked more boxes and donated some stuff so the minor clutter we had is gone. I've been walking two miles a day with Odin on my back in the tula. Yay! Gym membership kicks in next month (thanks hun). I've also filled the fridge with healthy stuff for January 1st, the beginning of our clean eating lifestyle (part two).
This is the stuff I get excited about these days :)
