FREE SOLO
It’s been an intense month to say the least and I’ve just wrapped up a course called Project and Team Management. What I enjoyed most about this course and professor Nick is that he provided a way for us to understand different personality types so that we may effectively harness that energy making for more efficient teams that will enhance our companies and projects operations. Assignments were very practical and I found myself using this opportunity to map out and gain feed back for my own budget and project timelines for upcoming projects.
One of the most profound stories we came across in this class was about Alex Honnold. Alex is a Free Solo rock climber. Upon graduating high school Alex had a 4.7 GPA at he went on to the University of Berkley to major in engineering and at 19 years old he dropped of college and stole the family mini van to climb. Living off of less than $1,000 a month Alex has reached a status of what some will call “Rock Star” Status in the world of Rock Climbing and has made the cover of National Geographic. His humble disposition is an unique trait because while he has been classified as the best/one of the greatest he doesn’t see himself that way and he continues to push and climb forward and upward.
When scaling a 90 degree wall he says that there is “no adrenaline rush… if there is then that means that there is something wrong…I’m mellow..” To conquer his fear of heights and to master his craft as a young boy Alex went to a local gym near his home 3 hours a day 6 days a week for seven years. He would work and climb until he was exhausted and then he would study rock climbing magazines and books. Alex’s story on faith, conquering fear and endurance is something that I can definitely relate to and it has helped inspire me in the continuation of my own Mastery Journey
