RIP Dick Marcinko. A true mustang officer who served with Team 2 in Vietnam and became the CO of Team 2. CMDR. Marcinko invented and founder SEAL Team Six in 1980 by stealing from various UDT and SEAL teams. He was the longest serving CO of The Command. Dick was invited back to The Command in 2010 for the 30th anniversary, an event only former operators can attend, I was there and Dick showed up in jeans, a flannel and flip flops (which was perfect and how most all the operators were dressed anyway) and gave the best speech of the night and one of the better ones I’ve sat through in my time. He was immensely proud and shocked at what the Command had become and accomplished up to that date. I knew his daughter who worked at one of local watering holes and she always gave us updates about her dad. There are many operators from many different places who owe a lot to Dick Marcinko. Some of these things are recruiting, leading by example and unconventional means to an end. With mission success being the final goal……always. There are present day leaders from all branches that can trace their style directly back to Dick, even though the line of learning has been filtered by a generation or two. Condolences to the family and all Teammates. #teamsandshit https://www.instagram.com/p/CX_CnDmOryn/?utm_medium=tumblr
