I found this tiktok of this guy talking about a theoretical NEW, MODERN version of a VCR player and Compatible CRT TV displays.
And I must say… I absolutely adore this idea.
There are a few ideas I’d like to add:
• Apps to pair with the devices that can act as remotes
• Making the new TV’s compatible with Bluetooth Speakers
• Instead of Strictly CRT Displays, I’d just honestly like the idea of different kinds of Displays.
• CRT for that Classic Feel… the Buzz of the Electricity, the warmth, the tube shape… I can definitely see different sizes becoming popular as well!
• A Projector attachment for the VCR itself to project the films for those who like Projections like myself
• Making Modern Flatscreen or Curved Flatscreens with VCR attachments (on the side like some og flatscreens had for DVDs!)
• Making the VHS Tapes themselves better and more manageable. (Making the Systems treat the tapes more delicately, making the Tape inside the shells themselves more Sturdy/sustainable and Eco-friendly while we’re at it, Auto Rewinding when the tape ends AND a button on the remote or app to rewind it to the very beginning.
• Companies would Sell their films In the Theater, on streaming, Then, like they did back with the Original VHS’, they’d start selling the Physical Copies.
• Companies would make SO MUCH MONEY on having Online Stores for VHS copies of their works.
• For these new VCR Machines, I’d make them able to play original VHS tapes OR these New, Modern VHS tapes I’m imagining…
• For these new VHS Tapes, I’d make them SMALL.
Think of the technology like… A Nintendo Switch Cartridge, Square CD, and a Cassette tape had a baby.
Modern, Electrical components would hold any Beautiful High-Tech Footage, while the newer, Modern ‘Tape’ would hold the audio.
The films themselves would look like Cassettes, inserted by the Owner into specially made shells that come either one plain one with the VCR itself, or Fun themes ones that come with Bundles! This is mostly for Nostalgia reasons, but also for Backwards Compatibility with Og VHS.
• Bundles with Full Series like some OG VHS and DVD bundles, but I HAVE AN IDEA-
Imagine the Shells that are about the size of a Classic VHS tape, and are themed to whateverr series.
The Tapes themselves are themed to the Film itself.
• (Side Note, I can definitely see a market for just cute, non specific but Themed shells… like Phone Cases almost)
• WE HAVE SO MUCH GOOD TECHNOLOGY FROM THE PAST THAT COULD BE SO INCREDIBLE IF WE REVISITED IT IN THE MODERN DAY.
• THE COLLECTIONS WOULD GO ABSOLUTELY WILD.
