The Lighting and Sound Director reports to the Production Manager. Basic Purpose and Objective of the Role: Under the direction of Orlando Repertory Theater (The REP) Production Manager, the Lighting and Sound Director will maintain The REP’s high standard for safety and craftsmanship, while serving as a positive representative for The REP in the community and with a commitment to provide “The Finest in Family Theatre!” The Lighting and Sound Director is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of the Lighting and Sound departments including, but not limited to: designing and or managing the execution of lights and sound for all events, departmental budgeting, managing contracted labor, and maintaining the lighting and sound inventory and rentals program. Duties and Responsibilities: • Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the lighting and sound departments. • Supervise lighting and audio contractors and over hire. • Act as Master Electrician and Head Audio Engineer for the facility. • Actively participate and manage lighting and sound installations with over hire crew. • Maintain and repair lighting and audio equipment for all three venues onsite. • Maintain a clean and organized work environment at all times. • Prep gel, templates, color scrollers, lighting positions, and cable for each production. • Order all materials needed for the lighting and sound department for each production. • Work with designers to execute their vision within our resources. • Work closely with the Production Manager to ensure accurate budget reporting. • Work closely with the Technical Director in scheduling to ensure all deadlines are met. • Attend all production meetings and technical rehearsals. • Act as programmer for the lighting board during tech as needed. • Work with the sound engineer during tech as needed. • Assist in preparation and set up of facility rentals in all spaces. • Schedule crews and submit time sheets on a weekly basis. • Maintain all safety and fire code regulations of the backstage areas and shops. • Work occasional nights and weekends. • Carry out any other duties assigned by the Production Manager. Qualifications: • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and follow schedules. • Knowledgeable using a wide variety of lighting consoles (ETC ION specifically), dimming systems (ETC Sensor, Strand CD80), lighting fixtures (both conventional and automated) as well as special effects equipment (foggers, hazers, strobes, etc.). • Knowledgeable using a wide variety of sound consoles (Allen and Heath GL4800, Midas Venice 320, Yamaha), knowledge of live mixing, and recording, installing and running live mic systems, running ClearCOM. • Knowledgeable in repairing both lighting and sound equipment. • Knowledgeable of Vectorworks and Lightwright. • Proficiency in QLab. • Ability to remain calm and collected under pressure. • Ability to work independently. • Ability to lift 50lbs, climb stairs and ladders, as well as work at significant elevations (e.g. theater grid or upright genie lift).
