Goodnight everyone, I am happy this is the only 2 show week for the rest of the NA tour, bc I am exhausted.
But thank you to the tech crew, especially the props crew making all the unique paper props everynight! Back to back shows are tough, so thank you to everyone for another great show! And a special thank you to the kitchen and food services team today for extended hotdog shenanigans now with vegan and massive dodgers dogs. Also big thanks to the custodial teams that help keep the venue and the facilities clean! Y'all are so important and rarely acknowledged!
As always, big thanks to IASTE locals, LA is Local 33, on setup and strike, make it a safe one tonight!
About you rec since you did a critique about Kai from exo. You rec yibo who Isn’t a real singer he is always off key that performance you posted it’s cringy and wouldn’t pass a decent kpop performance. Yibo doesn’t sing live ever in shows . You can find real audios of yizhan performing together and heard the real audio of yibo voice that was so bad but so bad that had to be replaced for the broadcast. I know we all like yibo here but honestly his only forte is dancing he isn’t a singer and he should stop singing in my opinion. He can rap live but he is mediocre in that too.
About Bts they aren’t singers it’s actually painful to heard them sing live they can perfom but that’s it. I’m honestly sad that’s the representation of kpop in the worst cause I do think they are terrible singers.
So I wish your recs where from talented people as for you it’s important to sing live but post artists that CAN actually sing. Otherwise I do prefer playback
As I have stated before, Anon’s ask wasn’t a request for recommendations for good singers. If it was just good singers that Anon wanted, frankly, I would have just posted an Adele or Brendon Urie performance and called it a day. Anon asked specifically for “over the top” performances that may have also had good production. NOT “very good technical vocal performance.” There is a huge difference between “good vocal performance” and “good performance with high production value.” The recommendations I picked had less to do with someone’s vocal talent and more to do with the production and overall performance value.
The criteria I set for “good performance” with a heavy focus on high production follow:
1. Production - Light and stage design, audio production
2. Choreography
3. Use of props and dancers
4. Stage presence
5. Live vocals
6. Creativity and originality
7. Overall performance cohesiveness
8. Audience interaction
9. How “extra”/“over the top” the performance is
WYB’s production value of his stage alone would have been worth over $100K. The light and set design was done very well. The choreography was A++. The creativity used with the flying rigs incorporated into the performance was also top notch. This doesn’t even account for the extreme technical difficulty of the performance - WYB would have had to time everything perfectly, working with a dance team and with the wire rig operator. (Can you even fathom just how difficult this is?)
If he missed a cue by even a few seconds, it would have been enough to throw off the entire performance completely. (We saw this in the rehearsals for his performance.) If he didn’t put enough force in kicking off the stage to do a back spin onto the platform behind him and land perfectly, he would have missed the platform entirely. (This also happened during the rehearsal.)
I disagree that the performance was cringy from a production point of view, as well as from a technical performance point of view, which is literally what Anon requested. Furthermore, the song is mostly rap - and WYB did just fine performing it.
WYB isn’t the only performer on my list whose strength isn’t primarily based on vocals alone- I stated BIGBANG also weren’t the best singers. They also aren’t the best rappers in Korea. (I believe AOMG would want to take that crown.) But, there is NO ONE in Korea who have the same level of energy, stage presence, and pure visceral, raw audience dominance as BIGBANG.
WYB isn’t a polished, manufactured Kpop idol with perfect vocals. But he is a raw, visceral performer who is creative, has strong stage presence, can dominate a stage, can interact well with an audience, and has undeniable swagger. He reminds me a little of a young G-Dragon or Simon Dominic (though he’s a better dancer than either of them.)
His stage performance itself, from a technical production point of view, literally is “over the top” and “super extra” which fit my criteria.
Anyway, since you want to talk best vocals, I’ll leave you some Brendon Urie to consider. (FYI- he is largely regarded by quite a lot of people in the industry as one of the best living vocalists in the world.) Pretty sure there are very few artists in the world who have a 4+ octave range and this extreme level of technical vocal control.
We can also take a look at Adele!
Or if you really want an Asian artist, here is Jrock sensation, Gackt, who is also playing a piano simultaneously, and singing with no playback. (He is known for his significant vocal range and vocal power.)
Ok. Well. Frank Iero when I catch you for that setlist. I fear whatever mayhem they are cooking up for Jersey.
Thank you IATSE Local 127 for the stage set up and strike, and a massive shout out to the sound/mix engineers, board ops, cue programmers and stage management for rolling with the punches on the change up during the elexecution and adding new cues and blocking for the survivor and their shiny new car prize. The sound quality was great (aside from some people needing to enunciate more when telling their little stories) and that's really impressive when mixing in an enclosed space.
And shout out to the riggers, especially if there was anything rigged to the ceiling with the first indoor stop! (If you ever want to get immediate sweaty palms look up vids of arena rigging on yt, it's so crazy!)
Also, whoever is sourcing all the hand and paper props, I beg of you to release documentation after the tour, I really want to see some good pics of everything!
If this was the Texas setlist, I am genuinely afraid of what's happening next week in Jersey.
Planning an event? Pi Events offers premium event management in Dubai. From DET permits to AV production, we ensure 100% execution. Contact
Dubai is the world’s event capital, but 70% of organizers blow their budget on hidden venue fees and avoidable permit delays. Success here isn’t about picking a fancy ballroom at the Atlantis; it’s about mastering DET permits, technical production, and local logistics before the first guest even arrives.
If you want an event that actually hits your KPIs without the typical Dubai “hidden costs,” you need a partner that owns the production chain. At Pi Event & Production, we don’t just book venues. We build the stages, manage the permits, and handle the cinematic filming in-house.
As always a big shout out to the touring crew! The camera operators, props crew, wardrobe, technical director / lead carpenter, the board ops, and the stage management team! You guys are dealing with a changing show night to night, including a whole new performer on stage today!
Also, given the new song(!!!), I also want to shout out the production team for the studios, namely Doug McKean, who they seemed to play the Paper Kingdoms song in memory of, who was the bands engineer and producer. Thank you to all the studio sound engineers and recording crew who don't get the attention they deserve in the work they do to create the records!
And as always, thank you to all the IATSE Local 33 members who set up the stage and will tear it down tomorrow!
