Weave Samples

Weaving on a loom was very new to me and I found that I had a very slow start. I think that the outcomes of weave have been successful because the colours are strong and playful. I think I captured the colours of the paintings and wrappings well in the samples and I enjoyed my time in weave. 

I liked mixing colours yarns and materials in weave, I found it fun to weave and I also enjoyed wrapping much more than I did in the earlier workshop I think these new wraps represent my colour palette better than my initial ones.

I think I could have been more a lot experimental with the patterns that I used in the weave, It was quite repetitive and I played it safe by using the patterns I was comfortable with. 

I decided not to wash my samples as I wanted them to be rigid to mimic the hard plastic objects in my collection. However, I now feel like that I should have tried to at least wash one before finishing them.

More Wrappings

These are a few more wrappings which I created from my palette knife drawings, I like the contrast between the chaotic paintings and the neat  stripes. I think I have captured the colour of the paintings well but the materials don't reflect my collecting well. For these wrappings, I used less plastic as they are smaller and I didn't have the right colours so I ended up using conventional yarns rather than another material. If I was to improve these wrappings, I would probably try to use a bigger mix of materials so that they relate to my box collection more.

New Wrappings

These are wrappings which I created from palette knife paintings using the colours inspired from my box. I think the colours work well because it links with my collection and looks playful, which is how I wanted it to look. I like how the colours are bright, vibrant and contrast with each other. I found the wrapping fun because I enjoy working with strong colours and the process of wrapping was quite therapeutic.

I think that the small scattering of plastic works well because breaks up the wrapping a bit (material-wise). If I were to use just plastic or just cotton, it'd be a bit boring and repetitive. I like blending the different coloured yarns, twisting them and also blending different materials to create my own yarn. These are the wrappings which I have used to guide me with my weave samples.
