Mouse-Tache (2002) by "Laura and Harry", UK. Mouse-Tache is a wall-following micromouse that came second in the 2002 Techno Games with a time of 38.90 seconds, winning the silver medal.
"Mouse-Tache was very impressive in its run, managing to make a smooth and relatively quick run. It made no mistakes as it made its way on World Record pace. However, despite how brilliant its navigation was, the robot was just shy of a World record but nonetheless managing to get a time of 38:90 seconds which was enough for Silver Medal." – Techno Games Wiki.
Techno Mouse (2001) by Team Techno Mouse, Taunton, UK. "Techno Mouse was a gymnastic competitor, from Taunton. It appeared in the 2001 Techno Games … performed brilliantly and won Silver. Techno Mouse had a "maze" for the robot to track and follow to end up back at its "home". The robot's performance was slow but nonetheless technically impressive. The technical scored decently but it managed to score lots of points for artistic impression. Techno Mouse was merely 0.5 points away from Gold and beating Flip Flop." – Techno Games Wiki.
Fay-Mouse (2002) by "Sam and James", Buckinghamshire, UK. “When will I, will I be" … Fay-Mouse? This (mostly) left-hand wall-following robot took home the bronze medal at Techno Games 2002. The video was recorded at UK Micromouse 2003.
"Fay-Mouse started off well, navigating the maze at a decent pace. It avoided all the dead ends as it went around and got to the end in the middle of the maze, here it managed to do so in a rather decent time of 47:72 seconds, which was enough for bronze for the year." – Techno Games Wiki.
Blip Squeak (2000) by Chris Chisnall and Peter Scott, Bolton School, Greater Manchester, UK. Blip Squeak came second in the 2000 Techno Games, earning it a silver medal. Blipsqueak gets its name from the fact that when turning left the robot will "blip", and when turning right the robot will "squeak".
"Mouse-mad young engineers from Bolton School Boys' Division have scampered to victory in a national robot competition. School pals Chris Chisnall and Peter Scott, both 15, have spent more than two years developing Blip Squeak, a clever electronic mouse capable of finding its own way through circuits and mazes. And in the national finals of the Y2K Micromouse Grand Prix at the Tomorrow's World Live show in London, Blip Squeak beat off all competition to whiz around the course in record time. The competition, open to nine to 18-year-olds, is organised each year by the Institution of Electrical Engineers and invites pupils to design and build their own small robotic vehicles. Two years ago, Chris, from Culcheth and Peter, from Tottington, came third in the contest but this year they were convinced they had a maze-beating mouse. "We were really chuffed," said Peter. "It has been a long time coming," added Chris. But the achievement did not come without the odd hiccup. "On the first corner it kept overshooting but luckily we were allowed to do it again," said Chris. The friends, both 4th year pupils, became interested in robots after joining the school's electronics club and now spend most of their lunch hours building and writing programmes for their little creations." – A talent to a-maze!, The Bolton News.
"Before the "mouse" had its turn, the team expressed a fear that Blipsqueak might not work due to the lighting and the sensors. Blipsqueak started off well in navigating the maze, although before it exited its corner, one team mate used his hand to assist Blipsqueak. Despite this, and a query of the legality of this from commentator Barry Davies, the judges had no problem with this action and allowed Blipsqueak to continue. Blipsqueak managed to get to the corner on the other side of the maze without getting lost, completing the course in 1:41:31. While just ahead of third-placed finished Semi-Intelligent Archer, Blipsqueak's time was more than a minute slower than winning machine Horse Power, but nevertheless secured second place and the Silver Medal." – Techno Games Wiki.
The video was recorded at MINOS 2001, at Royal Holloway, University of London.
T.A.D. (2000) by Tom, Andrew, and Dave, UK. T.A.D. competed in the 2000 Techno Games. "T.A.D. was prepped and ready on the starting block, even if the team knew they wouldn't win. Unfortunately, T.A.D. turned and instantly drove into the wall getting stuck. The team stop the robot and reactivate it only for T.A.D. to drive forward and into another wall. The team then stopped the robot and decided to forfeit."
Voyager II (2003) by Simon Johnson, David Johnson, and Rosie Johnson. "Voyager II is a micromouse competitor from County Durham. It appeared in the 2003 Techno Games Wall Following competition and managed to get to the final but lost, coming fourth. … In the Micromouse final, Voyager II faced Mr Cheese, Mouse Catcher and Golden Eye 2. Golden Eye 2 was the quickest to set off, and was able to navigate the maze almost immediately, where it quickly exited and won. Shortly after, Mr Cheese was able to escape the maze and came second leaving Voyager II and Mouse Catcher. Voyager II was the clear slowest, struggling to compete with the faster machines; this would be proven by Mouse Catcher's eventual escape where it came third, leaving Voyager II having not made much progress." – Techno Games Wiki
