🤗Do they consider their partner’s family to be their family too?

Yu-Qi really didn't, at first. The concept of human-style families doesn't exist among her "family"—a collection of higher beings that can manifest others from sheer force of will. Siblings, parents, children, any familial title—to a God-Dragon, they're so similar as to be completely meaningless distinctions. Everyone just exists, with very little relation to each other. At the beginning of their relationship, she treats Xinya's family the same way she would treat any random stranger, and didn't see a problem with that. Once she learns human customs, though, she becomes a bit more gracious.

🎈Do they celebrate any extremely specific holidays that their family pretty much invented from scratch?

When Teconia still lived with her sister Seraph and their mother, they celebrated "the Wink." The planet they live on has two moons, that have different cycles, and when one moon is full and the other is new, it looks like winking eyes. They would go out into the woods at night and make a little campfire to eat and tell stories around. It's not an official holiday, but it made their lives a brighter after the death of her father.

🎳Are their friends welcome among their family? Only certain friends?

Henry, when he was young and/or poor enough to be living with his parents, was absolutely not allowed to bring any of his friends around. Whether his friends were bad influences or not was not something he cared to think about growing up, so... there may have been a reason for this rule!

Teconia: Storge 3, Philautia 1

Oh wow I haven't talked about her in a while!

For those unfamiliar, Teconia is from a (very old) WIP of mine called Firesoul!

Storge 3: Does your OC have any siblings? If so then did their parents have a favourite growing up? Has their relationship with their sibling changed in adulthood? If they don’t have any siblings then do they perhaps feel they have missed out on an important relationship? Do they have any especially close friends who go some way towards filling that role?

Yes! Teconia has a little sister, Seraph. Because their mother was ill and their father dead, Teconia became sort of a surrogate mother. The age gap between them is large enough that this wasn't a difficult role to fill, but it was still undoubtedly hard for her. Teconia cared for her entire remaining family after her father died, almost before she had a chance to grieve him. She would never resent her mother for being sick or Seraph for existing, but there's a part of her that is angry that this is what her life became. And it wouldn't have been that way at all if her father never got shipped off to war.

Philautia 1: Does your OC have a healthy sense of their own worth and value? Or do they see themselves as failing to live up to their original potential? Perhaps they are convinced of their own sinful or inadequate nature?

Teconia is in an interesting position. She's proud of herself for taking care of her family, but also is painfully aware that all of her hard work could come crumbling down at any moment. Because she's a mage, hiding her power is essential if she wants to keep taking care of her family, or be branded as a dangerous criminal and get ground into her country's war machine. It's hard not to feel guilty for that. It's hard not to believe it isn't her fault.

QUICK what would your fave characters play (race and class and how they would play the Player Character) in Dungeons and Dragons?????

OH GOD OH FUCK UH--

The hardest part of this is picking favorites, so I’ll just do my protagonists!

Xinya would probably pick something magical. Definitely a High Elf, either a Sorcerer or a perhaps a Light Domain Cleric! Either that, or she’d be a very ruthless DM -- but her boss fights, loot drops, and plot twists would be legendary. 

Teconia would absolutely be either a Halfling or a Gnome. I can picture her as either a Wizard or an Arcane Trickster Rogue. Chaotic Good player for sure, unless she wanted to try something different and go Chaotic Neutral.

Park would want to skew for practicality -- being a robot and everything. I definitely think stick with a Fighter for class, but the race is a sticking point. He might just go plain human, if I’m being honest. He’d be the best kind of player to be Chaotic Evil because you’d never expect him. He has no tells, he’s a robot. 

Hayden has definitely played D&D before, and he is always the Barbarian with an unusually high charisma. He’d probably also go Half-Orc or full Orc just to fuck with people, charming his way out of sticky encounters instead of killing people. Just really go against the grain.

Teconia 10/10

She gives the biggest and best Mom Hugs you’ve ever had. Approach her at any time for a hug, and she will give you one, no questions asked.

Hayden 7/10

He has mastered the art of hugging with crutches, but he doesn’t like hugging for a super long time. A nice friendly squeeze, and that’ll hit his Hug Meter to the max

Xinya 5/10

Her hugs are very stiff and professional – a single pat tops – if she’s not already familiar with you. If you’re her friend, her hugs get a little warmer, but she still doesn’t really know where to put her arms? Poor Xinya is kind of a mess when it comes to physical affection in general

Park 3/10

He is made of metal. Also, he doesn’t really like hugs. They clog up his sensors and just make him feel very uncomfortable in general.

Pride?

What is an action an OC of yours once took based on pride that caused more trouble than it’s worth?

Most of Park’s life has been a series of him saying, “Yes I can, watch this,” in response to someone saying, “I bet you can’t do [x].” 

Whom is the most prideful out of all your OCs?

Out of all of them, I’d say it’s Park. He can’t stand being belittled, and will always do his best to show up someone who insulted him. Even at great personal cost. Yu-Qi comes in at a very close second, though.

How do your OCs react to prideful people? Do they tolerate them? Can’t stand them? Believe all their self compliments and hail them as a hero?

Teconia in particular has a burning (haha) hatred for prideful people. She was surrounded by them in The Sanctuary -- people who think they’re better than her because they have the advantage of holding all the cards. She was even surrounded by them in the resistance group -- people who thought they deserved to be a leader because they thought of an idea once. She’d like to show them a mirror, at the very least.

Does the idea or theme of pride shape your WIP in any shape or form, or is its pretense minor or non existent?

In Out of the Park, for sure. Park’s character arc is that he needs to learn that maybe he’s not the only person capable of changing the world, even if it feels that way. He has to learn that it’s okay for other people to help him, and that it’s okay to not be able to do things sometimes.

I'm gonna talk about Teconia from my ancient dusty WIP Firesoul.

💞If they had more than one, which of their parents/guardians did they get along best with in their childhood? Is that still the case?

Teconia got along better with her father, and would always beg to help him with carpentry tasks that no child should ever be doing. Because he had a brain, he would allow her to watch instead, and promised to teach her the craft when she got older.

Unfortunately, her dad was forced into their nation's army and never made it back home. She misses him every day.

🤪Do they have a “fun uncle” type family member?

Not by blood. Tecoina's family lives/lived in a small village where it's impossible to not know everyone because they're the only people around you. In particular, Teconia herself has an apprenticeship with the local seamstress, and her husband is a jolly fun type like that. Especially since her father died, he's done his best to cheer her and her sister Seraph up whenever they see each other.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦How would they define “family”?

For Teconia, family is the most important thing in the world. Family is the thing that motivates her, something to look up to and to set an example for.

😱How would they react to being asked to care for an ill and/or elderly family member long-term?

Teconia has already been doing that for most of her life. Her mother fell ill very soon after her father died, and when Seraph was too young to help out. She fully expected to be caretaking for both of them for the rest of her life, and while she didn't like that idea, it seemed so inevitable that there wouldn't have been any point in complaining about it.

Since there was no question provided for the wild card, I'm just gonna say random stuff.

Now that I've made this game, I realize really haven't created a ton of fleshed out families for my characters? Except like, specific characters and stories where family is really important to various arcs (like Teconia here, she joins/starts a revolution at first so she can get home to her family). I don't know why this is, I guess it's just lower of the writing tier for me that other things!

unfortunately, I can't think of a great answer for this question. I guess Teconia probably made up stories for Seraph when she couldn't sleep or just to play, but thats all I've got.
