“We spend so much of our life waiting for things to happen. Or waiting for things not to happen. Sometimes we wait with someone, sometimes we wait alone, sometimes we enjoy the time, sometimes it painfully unbearable.”
A Love Letter to WongFuProductions
I first saw you five years ago, when I was in eighth grade. We were just a bunch of kids who didn’t really know what we were doing with our lives, but who really does at that age? The first thing I learned about a lot of my favorite TV shows is that the characters never grew. You grew, and so did I.
Somewhere along the way, I thought that we’d lost you to the lights--that’s my pretentious way of saying that I thought you’d sold out. But now I know that this isn’t the case. Because when you gave your graduation speech a few months ago, you talked about something that no graduation speaker talks about. You talked about something real, something on everyone’s mind but not their tongue.
For all the fame and the glory, all the speaking invitations and collaboration deals, there’s something genuine about you that you’ve never lost. Wes is a great storyteller and his shorts are my favorite part of the channel, but he’s also someone everyone laughs with in Lunch Breaks and laughs at in the two dance tutorials where he agrees to come on but just waves his hands instead of dancing. Phil has a lot of things to say about love and success and Disney movies. Ted has awkward animals.
You don’t lose sight of what you’ve set out to do: To tell a story, to write your own, and to have a lot of fun experiences along the way. I feel like I’m never alone, as long as you’re here.
