Every successful community is a product of many individuals who went out of their way to find the way, veered off what was called normal to achieve what now seems to be normal. We have countless examples in men like Cornelius Vanderbilt whom according to Wikipedia had little or no formal education, Oprah Winfrey, who changed the world of the talk industry or Bill Gate, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg who gave us devices to help teach formal education that they didn’t study, but let’s not quickly forget the likes of Nelson Mandela, Isaac Newton and Jim Henson who left no stones unturned in their quest for formal education in order to change their world. So what do all these people have in common? Education to them was a tool and not a goal unlike in our community where education seems like the end point. This tool allowed them to source for the kind of education that suits their dreams and aspirations. They were not tailoring themselves to fit education but rather tailored education to fit them, it is in that custom made educational system that we have schools for medicine and engineering and also schools for fashion and film. It is that custom made educational ideology that we appreciate you for a first class degree but you won’t earn more than a school certificate holder if he’s bringing more to the table than you are. #TED #TEDxUI #DareToBeAbnormal #TheSeunFakorede #HomeAdvantageAfrica

You must not use your entire life as the flashlight to find education but rather, use education to find your life. EDUCATION IS A TOOL, NOT A GOAL. As a Nation, we need to take the laser focus off "schooling" and place premium on the growth and development of an exposed community, bringing in synergy this important tool in order to unlock the gateways of a productive Pan-African Continent. #TED #TEDxUI #DareToBeAbnormal
