Cherry Venture by ants47 on Flickr.
Via Flickr: On 8th July 1973 the 1625 tonne, 91.4 metre cargo ship, Cherry Venture ran aground at Teewah Beach (near the township of Rainbow Beach) Queensland, Australia. The Cherry Venture was built in Gothenburg Sweden, in 1945. She was launched as the Scania. After name changes to the Slott and the Timor Venture, she became the Cherry Venture in 1971. She was travelling to Brisbane Qld. from New Zealand when she was caught in a ferocious storm. A number of attemps were made to refloat it, but all failed. The ship decayed away into a wreck over the decades. What was left was removed in 2007. The propeller was removed, and is now displayed at the township of Rainbow Beach. These photos were taken while on my honeymoon, early in October 1973, three months after the ship went aground.
