Here is something i have put together in anticipation for Zelda Tears of the kingdom. Here we see a illustration of me as the hero and my princess Musso going on an adventure. For this illsustration i wanted to capture my love for the zelda games in general, so i went for a windwaker inspired style, with some references also to games like the minish cap. The hat i am wearing is very much based on a link to the past and the tunic is a reference to the one Link has in Tears of the kingdom. I really love the Zelda franchise and my love of it started with Zelda Phanthom hourglass. A game that took me 11 years to complete because the temple of the ocean king kept making me rage quit. I loved the game None the less, it was a gift fram my late grandfather and my grandmother and wow was it fun, and even though it did take me way too long to complete i still enjoyed the time playing it. In a way i really grew up with that game. When i finally sat down to finnish it back in 2018 it was in a way my way of dealing with the loss of my grandfather. And when i finally beat the game i decited to start collecting and playing the other zelda games. For me it was a way to escape into an amazing world with fairies and magical worlds. Where a fish’s dream could become an adventure and for me, a kid with natrually pointy ears, it felt amazing to be able to name the hero after myself. Something I really feel we lost in Breath of the wild. Gone are the day where link could be you. And even though you still control him, i do feel like we lost a part of what I felt made Zelda such a Great game series. I kinda wish Nintendo had gone the other way and given us even more freedom with Link, given us the chance to maybe select gender or race. It would have been a little change that would have made breath of he wild an even more personal experience, they wouldnt even have to change the dialouge that much. Maybe just refer to the player ad hero. But that was never gonna happen. That aside i am still looking forward to Tears of the kingdom! The game looks amazing and the newest trailer really sold it for me. I just hope that some day we will see a 2D zelda again where you get to name the hero, because that’s what made zelda special for me.
