Dear Humans,
Congratulations! We have successfully turned paradise into a landfill, lush forests into parking lots, and life giving rivers into industrial drains. Bravo! The planet that nurtured us in its very womb of existence, now lies gasping under the weight of your so called ‘progress.’
Hyderabad’s 400-acre biodiversity haven near the University of Hyderabad is next on the chopping block. Why? To build yet another IT corridor. Because, obviously, the world needs more glass buildings and less oxygen. The birds, insects, and animals that call this land home? Just collateral damage, right? Because who cares about a few million living beings when we can have another corporate office with an air-conditioned lobby?
The jungle yes, the one that sacrificed it self for us we repay its kindness with chainsaws and bulldozers. But ovious why to worry right, because our concrete jungle will be there to comfort us until the air gets too thick to breathe, and the heat too unbearable to survive.Planting a tree? Oh, how quaint! What a poetic little solution for the destruction we cause. We build skyscrapers, cut mountains, dam rivers, and then plant a couple of decorative saplings and call it ‘sustainability.’ How cute. The ancient banyan who was once a silent witness to our ancestors’ wisdom is now just a pretty picture in history books. Have we even noticed its absence? Have you even felt the void?
We argue about religion, debate politics, comedy wage wars we do whatever keeps us entertained. But understand this: the Earth is not a topic for debate. It is not history. It is home. And without it, none of our victories or losses will matter.
Ignore this letter if you wish. Toss it aside, call it dramatic, go back to endless meetings and profit margins. But when the last tree falls, when the last drop of clean water is gone, and when our lungs wheeze in the poisoned air—just remember WE DID THIS.
Sincerely
A Witness to the Apocalypse
