1983 #Fender #Telecaster Elite spotted at @capsulemusic #Toronto. The Elite Series (which included a #Tele, a #Stratocaster, and a #PrecisionBass model) was the second innovation, after the “#AmericanVintage” series, launched by Dan Smith as part of his plan to improve players’ perceptions of CBS quality control and to boost flagging sales. They had a redesigned cast 6 saddle top-loading bridge, noise canceling active TBX and MDX controls for a variety of tones, easy gripping knobs, jumbo frets, a 12” radius neck, bound top, and optional stick-on pickguard. Elites were only produced for about 1.5 years, from mid 1983 until late 1984 when CBS put Fender up for sale. Thanks to @premierguitar’s article on the Elite Tele for learning me all about these odd and interesting instruments!
