Jason Where did you grow up? Telee I grew up in Houston, Texas. I’m from Acres Home 44 aka “The 4-4”. There are actually a bunch of cats from here such as Mike Jones and Slim Thug. Jason So when did you begin rapping? Telee I began rapping way back in middleschool. I was influenced by artists such as Too Short, The Ghetto Boyz...those are the type of guys that made me want to do it. I started taking it seriously about 2 years ago. My brother and I started AllFamily Ent. Since then we released three of the hottest mixtapes in the streets right now. We released “From Here on Out”, “Swagger Continues” and “My Finest Hour”. You can find them all on iTunes and preview them on DatPiff.com. Jason Cool man. So is AllFamily Ent a full service production company? Telee Yea, I got some up and coming producers making some tracks for me. We are also doing a movie that I will be starring in. It’s still untitled at the moment. I met with the writers and directors the other day. There are about 3 scripts in the work, we just gotta pick one. It’s either gonna be a comedy or a gangster flick. Either way, I would like it to have a nice meaning to it.
Jason You seem to release a new mixtape or album every year, have a movie coming out. You have a lot of videos online. How do you keep up this relentless work ethic? Telee Well, I try to make every project I do, better than the last. I set my standards really high. You know, once the streets took to my music, I couldn’t deliver a sub par album the next time. So I just try to work hard. I’m very self motivated. You know, I’ll listen to outside critics, but for the most part I try to critique myself. I’m definitely my biggest critic. Jason Where do you find inspiration when you’re creating songs? Telee I’m from the streets, so a lot of the music is me telling my story from the streets to where I am now. My music explains and tells a lot about where I’ve been and what I’ve gone through. I’m fairly well rounded. I like to be versatile. I’ll also do some songs for the ladies and clubs. Jason How do you switch back and forth between the different types of tracks? Telee I don’t know. It must be a gift from a God. Every song I hear, I hear a different thing. It varies from song to song. A different beat will give you different ideas. Sometimes I feel as though a song should be a certain way and I’ll go with my feeling and make it about that. You can really go any way you want with any track. You just gotta decide what you want it to be about.
Jason You also have some dope videos out. Ya got your older project “Money Counter” and also one of the newer videos “Miss Me”. Can you tell me a little about those videos? Telee Yea, “Money Counter” is from a little while back. It was off “The Swagger Continues” mixtape. That was filmed in the neighborhood and at the club “High Roller”. “Miss Me” was sort of a street anthem/club song. The club scene is big here in Houston, so I try to give the people music they can relate to. Jason I also saw you had to battle some legal troubles in your past. How as that affected and changed you? Telee Yea, I mean, I made some bad choices in my life and now I have to learn from those mistakes. Now I put myself in a better situation and surround myself with different people. I now focus my energy on music instead of other things. Jason Although it was a setback, do you think it pushed you forward in your rap career? Telee Yea, it kind of was a double edged sword. It pushed me back of course, but yea, it did make me want to focus on music a lot more. I became aware of what I have to avoid. It made me who I am today. I just try to feed off the positives from the situation. Jason So how has Houston been supporting you? Got a lot of hometown support? Telee Oh yea, definitely. DJ’s show me love at clubs, so do the people. People are being very encouraging. I got a lot of good reviews and support. There are also a lot of new artists coming up in Houston. So that’s good. We have a strong movement going on down here. Jason What’s it like walking into a club and hearing your song? That must be exciting. Telee Yea. The first couple times, I was like “Wow!”. Haha, but then you kinda get used to it. It’s still exciting though. I still get that feeling no matter how many times I’ve heard it. It’s really one of those things you have to experience in order to know what it feels like. Jason What’s it been like putting on shows? Telee I love it. That’s one of my favorite thing. It’s a great feeling when you can control the audience with your own music. It’s real exciting. That’s one of the main things about rap, being able to rock the crowd. It’s a dream come true.
Jason You also got a track with Yung Buck. What was it like working with him? Telee Yea we collaborated on that in the studio together. That was off the “Swagga Continues” mixtape. The song is called “Sold That” (remix). But yea, he’s a real cool cat. That was a great record. Jason Aright cool man. So just my last question. What can we expect from you and the label in the future? Telee Well all my artists are going to be droppin their projects. Ya gotta look out for Big Hen, Overdose, they’re all gonna be real good. I’m still in the studio everyday working. You also gotta look out for my movie most importantly. And I just want the people in New York to know we love the east coast down here in Houston and I hope you guys check me out. My Twitter is @Telee_AFE.
