Magnetic Hotplate Stirrers used in the laboratory require precision regarding temperatures. Many applications specify the ramping up and down of temperatures. For instance, a stirring application requires a 1 degree celsius ramp-up of the temp an hour. That's where the pt100 probe comes in. It's made out of platinum and its function is to measure the resistance of a platinum element over the programmed temperature range of the magnetic hotplate stirrer. The pt100 probe monitors the liquid temperature rather than hotplate temp.
