sydnee’s heart danced inside of her chest and two fingers moved subtly to the inside of her wrist to assess its rate. hazel hues drifted towards her rear view mirror as she sat in her car, heat causing slender thighs to stick to the black leather beneath her. the hand pulled away, sufficiently convinced that the dizziness that marked her mind and the butterflies that danced inside her ribcage were caused by a simple spell of tachycardia as opposed to the fact that she was about to be face-to-face with nathaniel colburn in mere minutes.
it had been well over two months since she’d last seen him, since he’d uttered the words that left her broken for weeks on end. the night prior, she was certain that her mind was playing tricks on her when his name popped up on her phone, but a mere day later, here she was. her hands shook as deft fingers worked to apply a fresh coat of lipstick before leaving the safety and comfort of her trusty honda.
shaking legs made their way into the restaurant, knees doing all that they could not to buckle and send her colliding with the hardwood floor. once inside, she scanned the crowd, an attempt to see if she was the first of the exes to arrive.
