You can’t just tell people not to speculate, people are gonna speculate, end of.
Of course people will speculate. Won't deny it. But it's tedious. You can also speculate whether his favourite mug is red or blue. Doesn't make any difference to me.
He's right when he says, no one really cares about it anyway. For many it's only important as long as their fantasies about him aren't disturbed (whether they want him to be single or having a happy family) others really don't care about it. His private life is and should be only up to him. So again, speculations are gratuitious, as it's no ones business.
