Hey guys! I need some advice. I've made some mistakes with drugs in the past but I stopped because I wanted to work on my relationship with God. But I haven't been able to develop a relationship because I don't feel anything when it comes to praying, reading the Bible, and going to church. Life's been tough for me lately and I know that drugs will make it worse, but the temptation is so strong especially when I have such a weak faith. I don't know what I can do.
Hey there, friend!
I admire your strength to persevere through and leave the past behind. Now both of those things are hard to do without the Lord, but with Him, He strengthens you to get through for His glory.
The testimony on how He has changed your life will help many.
Although I haven’t had a past with drugs, I do know what it is to go through a season of feeling empty and void. A big thought that always sticks close to me during those seasons is this:
The loneliness and emptiness you’re feeling is God crying out to you to commune with Him.
God is so proud of you for seeking Him out even though you feel empty. He wants you to know that. He also wants you to keep seeking, asking, and knocking. When you pray and you feel no connection- He is listening and is mending you, piece by piece. When you try to dive into the word and feel disconnected from it and you grow discouraged- He is holding you close and is wanting to still reveal something to you. As humans, we often let our feelings take over. This is something we all deal with. My encouragement to you is to keep seeking after God, because I know in my heart He is going to show you something amazing soon. Something that will connect with you.
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you…” -James 4:7-8
Temptation is tough stuff. The moment the thought drifts into your mind, remind yourself why God is always better. Sounds cheesy, but really start to genuinely adore Him and praise Him for all that He is; good.
I hope I was able to help some. We are praying for you and if you ever need a friend, I am here. Promise. <3
