laura had been eyeing the male from across the bar, contemplating if she should approach him or not. at first, she only wanted to acquaint herself with him, since he and river seemed to be quite close and laura was all for making new friends. but as she got a closer look at his features, laura now found another reason why she should get to know him better. taking in a deep breath, laura dragged her slightly buzzed ass towards where he was and stated with confidence ( which was all thanks to the tequila shot she just had ), “you look like you need a drink.”

tenoch got her there. stunned with her mouth stupidly agape, laura pursed her lips and let out a huff of breath. “no, i — of course not,” she finished hanging her head in exasperation. “it’s just, you don’t understand. we’re not together anymore, we haven’t been for ten years ! we haven’t even spoken since we split apart..” laura hung her shoulders, on the verge of defeat and looked at him with her eyebrows furrowed. her eyes were pleading for tenoch to believe her. it wasn’t that she cared so much for their relationship — she isn’t even sure what their relationship is. it’s the fact that tenoch thought she had deceived him and now, she could see the difference in his eyes when he looked at her. it made laura feel guilty, sleazy even. “the only thing connecting me to emerson now is a certificate that was made in some town hall when i was eighteen. tenoch, please, you have to believe me. if i had known, i swear i would have never — ” laura faltered to finish her sentence.
