One week after a shooting at The Covenant School that left three nine-year-olds and three adults dead — young people flooded the streets of Nashville and the Tennessee Capitol demanding that their elected officials protect them from gun violence. In response, the Tennessee legislature expelled two elected officials, Justin Pearson and Justin Jones, for joining their constituents in protest. To target young, Black elected leaders as they work to voice the concerns of the people they represent is undemocratic and blatantly discriminatory. To rob Americans of their representation as they plea for the safety of our children is unconscionable. Democracy belongs to all of us — 𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘶𝘯𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘷𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺.
I am overwhelmed w/ Pride & Solidarity by Justin Jones & Justin Pearson's conviction 2 Standing On their Square. As the youngest lawmakers in Tennessee State Politics, BOTH send a clear message that A New Generation is taking The Reins. The GOP overplayed their hand- the double expulsion WILL B overturned... This isn't 1877.

Oh, and also...
As a Tennessean, I watched all six hours of this floor session where Justin Pearson and Justin Jones were expelled. I support the Tennessee Three and hope you will too!

Representative Justin Jones
Representative Justin Pearson
Representative Gloria Johnson
The Tennessee house republicans filed a resolution to expel the three democratic representatives from their seats in the state legislature for "disorderly behaviour".
The resolution said that the three brought "disorder and dishonour to the House of Representatives through their individual and collective actions"
The votes took place on Thursday ,April 6 which resulted in Mr Justin Jones , Mr Justin Pearson being expelled from the Tennessee state house of representatives , while Gloria Johnson kept her seat by one vote.
The expulsion became even more controversial when house republicans chose to expel the two black representatives but not the third representative who is a white woman.
They accused the three for "disorder and dishonour to the House" for just standing with the people and joining the 10,000 kids that were protesting that they wanted to feel safe in school and for the state house to do something about guns.
